Robot and Technocracy yj erily , the world moves ! Since writing the first in stallment under the above caption, less than four weeks ago, a new religion has been announced to the world, and already it has captured and fired the imagination o f countless mil lions. The new religion is called “ Technocracy,” and the name of its god is Robot. Robot is the machine-god o f materialism. The Lord God o f Israel has always been anathema to a materialistic world. For nearly six thousand years, materialists have prowled about the walls of Eden, seeking a way to slip past the guard Omnipotence placed at the gate. T o this end, materialistic science has created a god and named it Robot. But behold, the materialists have found their god a heartless creation who has turned upon them, and who even now threatens to devour them. To save themselves, a new religion is now being espoused by the' creators o f the ma chine-god. If they can gain enough converts to this new fangled, materialistic “ -cracy,” it is proposed to place Robot-god, at the head o f all mankind, a world dictator without whose “ mark” no man can buy or sell. With him at the head, it is proposed to march forth against the cherubim o f Jehovah, retake the gate o f Eden, and re-enter the lost earthly paradise where men need not gain their bread by “ the sweat o f the face.” The experiment is interesting. The garb of Robot is indeed the garb o f an angel. He is offering mankind a speedy entrance into the Golden Age for which men have long looked. But some strange, disquieting protuberances seem to be bulging against the inside o f the garb. They remind one o f “ hoofs and horns.” Somehow, we feel that the same old enemy is at work, this time in the guise of a world-saviour, indeed— the same old enemy who has ever promised the removal of the curse without the cross. O f this, more may be said anon. In the meantime, we recall the words of a very, very wise man who said, “ Behold this only have I found ; that God made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions” (Eccl. 7 :29 ). However, on January 1, 1928, Gog, the Russian, an nounced his first “ Five-Year Program.” Oddly enough, the prime purpose o f that program also was to place the presumably all-powerful Robot upon the pedestal and pro claim the machine-god the saviour of the world. The suc cess of this first “ Five-Year Program” has been a bit ex asperating to Gog. God, the God o f Israel, is blamed. He seems to be a thorn in the fleshly program o f Robot. Therefore, a new program, as we have already seen, is announced. God must g o ! For His exit, “ 1937” is fixed as the zero hour. So decrees Gog. God, of course, will go— but to Armageddon! Will it be in 1937? “ T hree U nclean S pirits ” Not yet is the prophecy in process of fulfillment which speaks o f three satanically inspired “ unclean spirits . . . which go forth unto the kings of the whole world, to gather *Second in a series of three articles. them together unto the war of the great day of God, the Almighty . . . into the place which is called in Hebrew Har-Magedon” (Rev. 16:1 3 -l6 ). The vision belongs to the days after the translation o f the church. Nevertheless, three unclean spirits are even now rampant in the earth— Papism, Fascism; and Communism. O f T hese T hree , the F oulest is C ommun ism A fouler spirit than the one that comes forth from its unclean nest in Warsaw, never roamed this earth. What ever it touches, it befouls— physically, mentally, morally, spiritually. The eye of God, in the days o f Ezekiel, pierc ing the veil of twenty-five centuries, saw the coming incar nation o f this spirit, and named him Gog. Consider two chapters of Old Testament prophecy, of tremendous import to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear-r—the thirty-eighth and thirty-ninth chapters o f Ezekiel, Ezekiel, unto whom “ the word o f Jehovah came . . . saying: Son o f man, set thy face toward Gog, o f the land o f Magog, the prince o f Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal” (3 8 :1 ,2 ). Herodotus, the father o f history, writing several cen turies before Christ, tells of a race o f savage barbarians who inhabited a great region o f indefinite boundaries to the north of the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea, and the Cau- cacus Mountains. They were; nomads of filthy habits, who never washed in water. They drank the blood of the first enemies killed in battle, making napkins of their scalps and drinking cups o f their skulls. They worshiped the swofd as their god, and to their god they sacrificed every hun dredth man taken in battle. For years, these Scythians of history were the scourge o f western Asia. Believed by the best of authorities to be the progenitors o f the people who still inhabit the same region, they have left indelible im prints o f their character upon their children’s children to many generations. For of similar character and spirit are the 180,000,000 mystic, ignorant, dirty, cruel, half-savage and half-civilized, half-eastern and half-western human beings who occupy that vast, yet off-the-track-of-the-world, region commonly known as Russia. As the “ uttermost” northern neighbor of the land o f Israel, these hordes, with their allies, are going to “ think an evil thought” and “ devise an evil device” (Ezek. 3 8 :10) which shall bring them down into that Cockpit of Asia (Har-Magedon) for judgment — swift, terrible, sure! All in all, it forms one of the most interesting, though terrible, pictures of the prophetic story. From a footnote on Ezekiel 38:2, in the Scofield R e f erence Bible, we quote: That the primary reference is to the northern (Euro pean) powers, headed up by Russia, all agree. . . . “ Gog” is the prince, “Magog” his land. The reference to Meshech and Tubal (Moscow and Tobolsk) is a clear mark of identification. The name Gog seems to have set most commentators guessing, or to have brought a confession o f total igno rance concerning it. One thing is admitted by all— it is not the same Gog which confronts us in Revelation 2 0 :7 ,8. One thousand years lie between the tw o ; and the latter Gog
