path is so certainly marked that the way faring man, though a fool, need not err therein. While some things are unrevealed, we do know that greater responsibility ever after rested upon those who witnessed this scene. Each added bit o f knowledge con cerning the Lord and His ways adds to responsibility. . The simplicity with which our Lord per formed this miracle is startling. Taking the damsel by the hand, He quietly said, “Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.” How sim ple! The commandment to a dead person to arise would sound like utter folly to those who heard, unless there had been in them that awe which rises from the pres ence of the Holy One of God. There was nothing spectacular here, and there is noth ing to excite the psychical wonderment of men when He speaks today to awaken to new life those who are dead in sins. The girl immediately arose and walked, not only recalled from the arms of death, but fully recovered from the ailment which sent her there, an ailment which had de pleted her strength and weakened her body, as the Lord’s directions concerning her refreshment would imply. Here was a miracle within a miracle, which so fre quently may be seen in our Lord’s works. We sometimes miss the full wonder of what He does, being blinded to all that has taken place because of the greatness of part of it. He restored this maiden to her parents as she was before her illness had settled upon her. The word o f the Lord has the same power today, and He is ready' to speak that word to every sinner, dead in tres passes and sins, who appeals to Him—a word which will not only bring the sin ner back from his death in sin, but will bring him back freed from the illness which slew him. When it will bring glory to Him and added blessing to the soul of the saved sinner, the Lord not only takes away the effects of the sin, but He restores to perfect health; this He does today in many cases. But the matter must be left in the Lord’s hands, to do as seem- eth good to Him. Lesson Questions Vs. 21-24. Where had Jesus been prior to the incident in this lesson? How many followed Him? May the decision of the multitude be safely relied upon (cf. Ex. 32:1; Lk. 4:28, 29; John 19:12-15)? Who was Jairus? What do you learn from his haste, his worshipful approach, his faith ? Vs. 35-40. What sudden blow to his confidence fell upon him? Can you show from- this incident that when faith is severely tested, there may always be a reassuring word from the Lord? Who ac companied Jesus into the death chamber? What was going on outside? Vs. 40-43. What response did the peo ple make when Jesus spoke? Who else in Scripture laughed, because they could not believe (Gen. 17:17; 18:12)? Discuss the simplicity of Jesus’ method. Does this apply also in the spiritual realm (Rom. 10:9, 10; John 5:24, etc.)? What “miracle within a miracle” (Joes this lesson present? Golden Text Illustration In a communication to his college chums, E. C. Deyo, who spent thirty years among the Comanche Indians, wrote as follows: “An old Comanche man said to a girl I baptized one day, ‘You made me happy to day, giving your heart to Jesus while you are in the springtime of life before you did much that was wrong.
