Power of Parents ® High School Handbook
Chapter 7
Students who report ever using prescription drugs without a doctor’s prescription are more likely than other students to have been the victim of physical or sexual violence.
Kids might try to abuse medications or prescription drugs for a variety of reasons: • To get high • To feel better • To help concentrate or stay alert • To lose weight • To perform better in sports • To entertain themselves or try a daring behavior
“HIGH” TEST SCORES Some teens use Adderall or Ritalin to try and boost their test performance to improve their grades. Studies show that these stimulants do not help learning when used by persons who do not have ADHD.
There is no “good” reason for abusing medications. Your teen needs to understand that abusing medications is not only incredibly dangerous, but it’s ILLEGAL .
