Natalie joins Homelessness Committee

Among our many and varied initiatives over the past year, the Housing Choices Western Australia team has focused strongly on advocacy and building connections which will help strengthening our state’s housing sector so that all West Australian’s have access to a safe, aordable place to call home with the appropriate supports to maintain their tenancy.

Housing Choices Western Australia GM (and Acting COO), Natalie Sangalli was appointed to the WA Government’s Housing First Homelessness Advisory Group. The 16-member advisory group brings together several organisations and individuals with knowledge and expertise in housing, homelessness and Housing First approaches to reduce rough sleeping. The Group is working with the state government to identify new ideas, remove barriers to access in the existing system and will guide the McGowan Government’s homeless reforms, outlined in All Paths Lead to Home: Western Australia's 10-Year Strategy on Homelessness 2020-2030. First Nation’s Family Fun Day The Tenant Engagement team organised a First Nation’s Family Fun Day based on feedback from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tenants about how they want to engage. The event was held outdoors in a welcoming space suitable for children and extended family and an opportunity to connect and build relationships with Housing Choices WA sta. One tenant brought information about the history of his mob and was able to share these stories with others and find connections between families. Housing Choices is committed to providing culturally safe environments for tenants to connect and we look forward to holding more of these events in the future for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families.

Housing Minister visits our Western Australian office

Minister Carey, who oversees the Land, Housing, Homelessness and Planning portfolios, met with sta and the Housing Choices Australia Board as well as Housing Choices Western Australia GM (and Acting COO), Natalie Sangalli, who updated the Minister on the Djuripiny Mia program, part of the significant funding package to end rough sleeping across WA. The Board also discussed how Housing Choices could partner with the WA Government on a range of opportunities to provide social and aordable housing in Western Australia.
