Big Housing Build continues

The 39 one and two-bedroom apartments were designed by award-winning architects Six Degrees and made possible through a unique cross-sector partnership with Homes Victoria, a peppercorn lease from Darebin City Council and a $1 million donation from the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation. In North Melbourne, we topped out another Big Housing Build project, Shiel Street, built by Buxton Construction and designed by Clare Cousins Architects. The property comprises of 78 one, two and three-bedroom apartments and is brilliantly located.

Since its announcement in 2020, Housing Choices’ partnership with the Victorian Government’s $5.3 billion Big Housing Build, to develop new social housing across suburbs including Preston, Carnegie, Pascoe Vale, North Melbourne, Hampton East, Belmont and Werribee, has progressed well. Our seven residential projects will provide 424 sustainable dwellings to low-income Victorians. Housing Choices has partnered with Aboriginal Housing Victoria to allocate homes across a range of developments, including some of the new Big Housing Build sites. The first Big Housing Build project to reach completion was Preston. In partnership with Thorne Harbour Health, the building provides much needed safe, aordable quality housing for lower income LGBTQI+ people who are disproportionately represented in homelessness figures.
