Set up for success

A history of trainee success

When Eliza Drivas describes her traineeship at Housing Choices South Australia, one sentence really stands out - “I was set up for success.”

Housing Choices SA has had a long history of successful traineeship programs, with several trainees still with the organisation years later.

Stephanie Bertoldi, now a National Rental Aordability Scheme (NRAS) Compliance Specialist based in Adelaide, was one of the first trainees. Stephanie commenced in 2013 and has held various roles based in both Adelaide and Melbourne over the years. “My traineeship was a great stepping stone into both the world of community housing as well as business. I’m very glad to have been able to complete a traineeship that fully prepared for my future roles,” said Steph, who will soon be celebrating her tenth work anniversary.

As someone who felt a bit nervous about customer service tasks like answering phones, Eliza has found Housing Choices SA to be the perfect, understanding place to complete her traineeship. “My favourite part of working here is the culture – I like that you can be open. Recruited through Maxima, a community based not-for-profit Disability Employment Services (DES) provider, Eliza joined the organisation as a Customer Service Trainee ten months ago and has just recently secured a permanent position as a Housing Services Advisor. excited you can show that, or if you’re struggling you can ask for help or work something out.”

“I am never bored here, there is always something going on.”

Eliza studies her Certificate III in Business through the Australian College of Commerce and Management while working full-time, using study leave to manage the workload.

“I’ve learned and grown so much in confidence here. As for the future, I’m not sure what it holds but I’d like to work here long-term. But before then, I’ve got plenty more to learn.”

“My manager Megan Pichler has been incredible. She’s so supportive, so prepared and has obviously done this kind of supervising before. I felt she really set me up for success when I started here.” “I also had a great Case Manager at Maxima, who was marvellous and placed me in this traineeship.”
