MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACKS NFL RIVALRIES FORGE COMPETITIVE OFFICES CellinoLaw.com August/September 2024 Advisor
The start of fall is usually associated with the autumnal equinox in late September. However, at Cellino Law and around New York, fall is already in the air. The end of summer signals the start of the most special season of all: football season . Cellino Law is unique. We have offices all across this great state, and attorneys fall into three camps (based on upbringing and location): Bills, Jets, and Giants fans. August is when the NFL preseason starts — but that is just an appetizer for September when all three teams’ regular seasons start, and the battle for the titles of New York's best team begins in earnest. THE REMATCH Last year, many of us from the Buffalo office traveled downstate to the Bills vs. Jets’ Sept. 11 game at MetLife Stadium. It was both teams' season openers, and there was a great deal of fanfare. It was set to be Aaron Rodgers’ big debut, and he took to the field waving an American flag. The atmosphere was electric , and you could hear the crowd's roar as they cheered for every sack, tackle, and catch. Of course, it wasn’t the debut many Jets fans had imagined. Aaron Rodgers lasted 94 seconds before suffering a torn Achilles injury during a sack. It was not what any football fan wanted to see — a star quarterback taken out for the season on a freak occurrence — but the Jets’ rallied around him regardless. Buffalo ended up losing the game 22–16, even with the Jets down a QB, which was disappointing to those of us who came down from the Buffalo office but cathartic to many in offices throughout New York City. This year, I am excited to see the rematch of that game in Week 6 on Oct. 14. Hopefully, it will feature both Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers, and it will be a duel all of our attorneys and staff can look forward to. UNMATCHED ATMOSPHERE I won’t disclose which of the three teams’ stadiums our firm has box seats at, but I will tell you the atmosphere around the stadium is wild. We go to games every week, joined by our staff and their families. Even seated up high, with the windows open, you can feel the electricity. It is exciting to live in cities obsessed with football and
where the mood in the office on Mondays is dictated by who wins and who loses. After a win, you can expect jubilation and high spirits. After a loss? Not so much.
SPECTATOR SPORT As incredible as the box seats are, there is a new stadium-going experience I am looking forward to even more. For the first time, I will have a grandchild in high school this September. I am looking forward to watching them compete, regardless of which sports they choose to play, and supporting them to a far greater level than I currently support the NFL. Football season is back, and as a family and a firm, we have much to look forward to this fall.

Legal Move Top Litigator From Pittsburgh Joins Our Buffalo Office
While there are no treadmills for the mind or ellipticals for our nerves, science tells us that mental exercise can help us obtain a growth mindset . The American Psychological Association defines a growth mindset as “the belief that a person’s intelligence and abilities can grow and improve with practice.” A growth mindset is the antithesis of a “fixed mindset,” which people exhibit when they quickly give up if they can’t solve a problem. Nurturing a growth mindset, in contrast, can help you view failure or setbacks as opportunities for learning. MORE THAN EFFORT Having a growth mindset is about more than just effort. It is the belief that you can develop your abilities and talents, as well as a perspective on how you approach life’s lessons and learning. That belief allows you to learn more quickly and achieve greater results, no matter what you aim to achieve. This does not mean simply having an open mind; it also means finding a way to continue striving to improve your knowledge, attitude, and performance. Some call it having “grit.” Psychology of Success HARNESSING THE POWER OF A GROWTH MINDSET
At Cellino Law, we are always looking for fresh talent to provide the best service possible for our clients. The litigators working to secure our clients the best legal outcomes possible all have unique stories worth sharing. Katie Monbaron, an experienced personal injury attorney, is a new and invaluable addition to our Buffalo office. DECADE OF EXPERIENCE Katie, a Connecticut native, studied history and political science at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. She had a particular interest in the World Wars and Russian history, as well as how post- communist nations had evolved since the fall of the USSR. She spent a month studying abroad, including stints in Kyiv, Ukraine, and Prague, Czech Republic. During college, she decided to utilize her degree by seeking a law career. She attended law school at the University of Pittsburgh and worked at a personal injury firm for most of her time there. After graduating, she practiced personal injury law in Pittsburgh for seven years and has spent a decade working in the field. Naturally, she is also a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan, but we won’t hold that against her here at our Buffalo office. GAELIC GAMES Katie is not just a fan of sports; she also plays ball herself. She is heavily involved in Gaelic, or Irish, sports. She plays Gaelic football, a team sport where 15 players from each team square off, using their feet and fists to get their ball into their opponents’ goal. She also plays Camogie, another Gaelic sport with rules similar to those of men’s hurling. When she isn’t competing in Gaelic football or Camogie, she enjoys playing pickleball. HER HEART IS IN BUFFALO Katie’s boyfriend wanted to move back home to Buffalo, and she happily moved with him. Fortunately for us, we have acquired a skilled litigator who will further improve our service to our valued clients. Buffalo, a blue-collar city that adores sports, reminds Katie of Pittsburgh; she has grown to love it.
CULTIVATING SUCCESS With a growth mindset, success plays second fiddle to self-
improvement. Celebrating the effort we put into each task motivates and encourages us to work harder and accomplish more in the future. Rather than focusing on the destination, the focus is on the journey. A growth mindset is a great way to become more positive, successful, and adaptable. By incorporating more facets of a growth mindset into your life, you will be well on your way to changing things for the better.

WARM WEATHER, MORE MOTORCYCLES Take Extra Precautions to Ensure Safety
In the midst of one of New York’s warmest summers, more motorcyclists are hitting the open road to take advantage of the weather. Like every summer, the addition of motorcycles on the road means that drivers should take necessary precautions to share the roads and ensure the safety of motorcyclists. Unlike cars, motorcycles offer little protection for their operators and passengers in the event of a collision. This lack of protection makes them more susceptible to catastrophic injuries than those riding in cars. Drivers and motorcyclists alike should do their best to keep a safe following distance on the road. A safe buffer zone between car and motorcycle — especially on uneven pavement or in inclement weather — can make the difference between a safe trip or a disastrous rear-end accident. Due to the size of motorcycles, they may not be easily visible to those in cars. Drivers should be cautious when merging, passing, and making left hand turns. Motorcycles can easily fall into a driver’s blind spot, making them susceptible to sideswipe or T-bone accidents. Double-checking blind spots and using blinkers before making any traffic maneuvers can help to prevent these accidents from happening.
their surroundings, drivers should be able to see and hear motorcycles approaching. Eliminating common distractions like loud music, texting, or talking on the phone can help drivers stay focused. For motorcyclists, ensuring that all safety precautions are followed can help to keep you protected in the event of a collision. Before hitting the road, motorcyclists should check their bike to make sure all brakes, tires, and lights are in working order. Proper riding gear, like a DOT-approved helmet and protective wear, can help to keep motorcyclists safe from debris and prevent fatal injuries in the event of an accident. Motorcyclists share the same rights and responsibilities as other drivers on the road, despite their increased risk for injury in the event of an accident. Safe driving practices and cooperation from everyone on the road can help to reduce the number of collisions between motorcycles and cars. If you or a loved one has been involved in a motorcycle accident, call Cellino Law at 888-888-8888 .
It’s always wise to eliminate distractions while driving, but it can be especially important with motorcyclists on the road. By staying aware of
