A TRIBUTE TO WORKING PARENTS The Unsung Heroes Behind Every Success Story

National Working Parents Day is celebrated on September 16th. It is a day dedicated to acknowledging the hard work and dedication of working parents. I have always had a deep appreciation for the sacrifices and challenges that working parents face daily, and with my line of work, that appreciation has only grown. This day is a reminder of their crucial role in our society and a personal reflection on how my upbringing and career have all been shaped by the dedication of hardworking parents. Growing up, my parents worked multiple jobs to provide for my sister and me. We spent countless hours in before-school programs, after-school care, summer camps, and daycare. My parents’ efforts and sacrifices to ensure we had a safe and nurturing environment were immense. When I became a lawyer, I was driven by this experience and motivated by friends and family navigating the same challenges of finding reliable and safe childcare. This personal connection to the struggles of working parents is what fueled my passion for daycare injury law. Working parents face many challenges, from managing time effectively to ensuring their children receive quality childcare. Juggling professional responsibilities while maintaining a nurturing home environment is no small feat. This relentless dedication inspired me to commit my career to helping families, particularly ensuring that daycare

centers are held accountable for the safety and well-being of the children in their care.

Daycare is not easy or cheap. Parents make significant financial sacrifices to place their children in daycare, trusting their hard-earned money will ensure their child’s safety. When something goes wrong, it is a complete betrayal of that trust. The least a daycare can do is provide a safe environment free from neglect, injury, or abuse. Our team is dedicated to advocating for the rights of working parents; that’s why we strive to ensure children are protected and parents can have peace of mind. One of the most rewarding aspects of what we do at BLF is seeing the difference we make for our clients. The determination

LOOKING BACK AND MOVING FORWARD

7 YEARS OF HIGHS, LOWS, AND ENDLESS LESSONS

It’s hard to believe I’m celebrating my seventh anniversary at The Button Law Firm. When I first joined, I never imagined how much we would achieve and how deeply the values we set on day one would guide us through every step. Looking back at my time here, I can pinpoint seven critical lessons I’ve learned along the way. First, family and team are everything. This isn’t just a core value on paper; it’s how we operate. Our team has become stronger, showing up for each other in every way possible. This value is evident in every decision we make, always considering what is best for the team. Leading with passion is another lesson I’ve embraced. I wear my heart on my sleeve and make no apologies for it. Plenty of lawyers will always say, “It isn’t personal; it’s business,” but for me, every case will always be personal. Being passionate about our clients’ cases shows we are willing to put the work in as if they were our own family. As a female attorney especially, there are plenty of negative stereotypes that women are too sensitive, emotional, and so on. Yet, I know this passion I have is what will have me thriving in this career for years to come. Staying hungry to learn is also vital. After seven years, I’m still eager to learn. I firmly believe that the moment you think you know everything, you’ve failed as a lawyer. Constant learning and teaching are essential for not just me but the whole team. Personally, I hope to expand my knowledge in electronic discovery, an area I can confidently say I know little about! Yet, I plan to keep learning and honing these skills and more in the future.

toward success. That’s why having such a strong team has been vital, as failure is a moment for us all to learn, collaborate, and grow together. Of course, along those lines, surrounding yourself with people who are better than you at something is just as vital. The sooner you face your weaknesses, the better you will be at finding others who can help you grow and achieve your goals. At our firm, it’s essential that we celebrate peaks to overcome valleys. In our field, we see some tough stuff. The fact is that there are going to be hard days, losses, and letdowns. When someone asks me how I do it, I tell them I allow myself to celebrate the wins and know that a life-changing success is always around the corner. Above all, maintaining a healthy life balance is essential. While I love what I do and could never imagine another path for me, I do have strict boundaries between the time I spend working and the time I spend with loved ones. I don’t have my work email or calendar on my phone, and when I plan to stop working at a certain time, I stick to it. All these lessons have primed me for the next seven years at BLF. My tenth work anniversary is on the horizon, and I couldn’t be more excited about all the changes BLF will experience until then. We’re close to having our vision come to life, and I’m thrilled to see where the journey takes us next. Here’s to many more years of making a difference! –Ashley Knarr

BROKEN PROMISES AND PAINFUL MEMORIES How Our Team Held This Daycare Responsible for a Preventable Injury

Noah* was only one and a half years old when he was subjected to terrible pain, injury, and trauma at the hands of the daycare that promised to care for him. Every working parent knows that options are often limited when juggling work and parenting, and that’s why daycares exist: to allow parents to feel secure knowing their children are in good hands. This is exactly what a local daycare facility promised Noah’s parent, yet that promise was tragically broken. We all know bottle warmers can be extremely hazardous due to the boiling water they contain. That’s why most states have regulations requiring them to be kept far out of a child’s reach. Unfortunately, in this case, there was not only a complete lack of supervision but also a failure to follow these important safety regulations. Noah was left to play alone, and he knocked over a trash can, causing the

bottle warmer to fall and spill scalding hot liquid all over his legs and body.

Despite the skin on his legs already beginning to peel and his cries of pain never ceasing, the daycare staff did not call for emergency services. The staff notified Noah’s parents but were nonchalant about the whole incident and downplayed the significance of his injuries. It wasn’t until Noah was picked up at the end of the day that he was immediately rushed to the emergency room. As you can imagine, Noah had to receive extended medical care to recover from the severe burns, and his family had to spend even more resources on finding alternative childcare. Liability was clear, and fortunately, we were able to find justice for Noah and his family. While we can’t erase the pain that happened when the bottle warmer fell, we can help them move forward with the justice they deserve.

Holding daycares accountable is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of our children. If your child has ever experienced an injury due to daycare negligence, it’s crucial to seek justice. Our team is dedicated to advocating for families and ensuring daycares are held responsible for their actions. We are here to support you and fight for the justice your family deserves. Together, we can help create safer environments for all children.
