Esko, global developer of integrated hardware and soft- ware solutions for the label, packaging and wide format print industries, has launched a new white paper entitled Cloud Freedom – delivering operational efficiency, data security and flexibility for print and packaging suppliers. Across the global print and packaging sectors, pack- aging converters and pre-media trade shops are wrestling with competing demands on their operations. To remain competitive, converters are in the market for strategies and technologies that will provide them with a competitive differentiation. Whether that be on cost, speed, quality, flexibility or consistency, the challenges faced by today’s prepress and print converters are significant. Combine these demands with a lack of skilled labor availability and decreasing run lengths, the need for management teams to strategically address business digitization, automation and connectivity becomes clear. Around 90 percent of businesses today have adopted cloud technology in some form. This figure is only expected to rise, with 69 percent considering mov- ing additional applications and services to the cloud. Flexo Market News spoke exclusively with Jan De Ro- eck, Marketing Director Industry Relations & Strategy at Esko, about the future of cloud technology and the ways in which it can help lead companies above their competition. Q) Why did Esko feel it was the right time to release the report? What internal discussions led to the report’s re- lease? A) Our transition from on-premise software towards a Cloud-based, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) plat-form has been has been going on for some time now. An im- portant supporting milestone happened last year with the publication of our Digital Ma- turity Model. Designed to help management teams meet the growing need to strategically address business digitization, automation and connection, the DMM was unveiled at the beginning of 2020, just as the scale of the global pandem- ic was be-coming apparent. While cloud computing is nothing new for Esko – our Web- Center and Cape Pack solutions are web-based – the rel- evance of this initiative grew throughout the year, as we were picking up insights and learnings from our custom- ers’ operational challenges related to working in a global covid pan-demic.
