ise from the audience. With the nug get of truth h e , proceeds to write a Gospel chorus “ complete with words and music” in a matter of moments. Many trophies of God’s grace can be clearly seen in the ministry of evangelism conducted in the distinc tive style of this musician. None, however, has been more important than the fact that through Phil Kerr many new talented converts have been given the opportunity for Christian witness and testimony. The list of these well-known personalities is a “ who’s who” of the Christian artistic field. They include: Tim Spencer, Redd Harper, Bill Carle, Stuart Ham blen, and many others. One of the recent converts, whose talents have thrilled thousands, has been Tony Fontane. (Both Tony and Phil will be featured this year during the Biola Week Bible Conference at Mt. Her- mon, California, August 9-16.) Phil Kerr has not been without criticisms. “ Trouble is,” he explains, “ some people expect the formality of a Sunday church service. Although the name of Christ is exalted through out each program, we major on the personal testimony of those who per form. They tell what the Lord Jesus Christ means to them, and how, since He has saved them, He will in trun help all those who call upon Him.” Kerr is quick to point out that the program is not to be construed as entertainment. “ The performers come to the Monday Night Musicales in a relaxed atmosphere. They can be themselves, and not feel hurried or hampered in any way,” he pointed out. “ None of them receives pay for the work, although some of them are surprized later on when we are able to send them an unexpected honor arium for their Christian work.” In summing up his ministry, the affable Christian leader stated: “We always try to maintain a three-fold obejctive. First, that Christians may receive inspiration. Second, that non- Christians may hear a positive wit ness for Christ. Third, that talented young people may be encouraged to utilize their abilities in Christian service.” Eternity alone will reveal the true scope and magnitude of his self-effacing and humble efforts.
