BEACH LIFE
MORE THAN A BEACH It is well known that Antigua has 365 beaches, one for every day of the year. It is also well known that they’re all pretty spectacular in their own ways. So, if you’re only staying for a week or two, how will you decide which ones to visit and which ones to save for your next trip?
W e talked with our team at the Luxury Locations Group and some Antiguan Locals and asked them to share their favourite beaches, to help you decide which ones are definitely not to be missed!

JERMAINE BOWEN Luxury Locations Group Darkwood is my favourite beach in Antigua. Driving to Darkwood, which is southwest of the island, provides serene views of the beautiful green and blue of my land. As a lover of long drives, driving to darkwood’s shimmering waters gives me unmatched tranquility that keeps me going back. A core memory at my favourite beach is attending the floating Waterpark. It’s an exciting and unique way to have a laugh with your friends when you inevitably accidently plunge into the water- which I did numerous times. I would say I have visited around 30 beaches, give or take. I love Darkwood as it has a little reef for snorkelling as you walk in, shallow and clear water and a great beach bar. The kids love Darkwood as they used to play on the inflatable water park every weekend so I have lots of great memories of fun times we’ve had there together as a family.

With a boat and an ATV you can visit significantly more beaches than with a car, so I would say I’ve visited around 60 or so. My favourite is Pinching Bay, it’s only really accessible by boat and we have had some wonderful family days on the beach there. Due to the reef it is only really possible to get one or two boats anchored at a time there so the 500m long beach often remains almost completely deserted. It has everything you could want, calm clear waters, great for snorkelling, small pools for paddling, hundreds of cairns stacked up at one end and a little shade for a beach BBQ. Although not my favourite beach as I have only spent a few afternoons there, Hermitage Bay beach holds a very special place in my heart; it is where I proposed to Nadia and where we spent our ten year wedding anniversary having a lovely romantic picnic to celebrate where it all started. I would say I have visited around 20 beaches so far, but it’s hard to remember given most come with a serve of rum punch. Valley Church and Darkwood are my favourites, due to the gorgeous colour of the water and how clear it is. Also, from the water looking back at the beaches you get an amazing view of the tropical fauna. I have some very special memories of Darkwood and Jolly Beach where I have seen some stunning sunsets. One evening on Jolly beach the sky looked orange, purple and pink all at once, honestly it was incredible. CARLY DAVIES Luxury Locations Group
