Hello, MIYC Members and Happy New Year! 2021 was a banner year for our Club. We braved through Covid and held events in the fresh air; then we christened the Riverside Marina. As the year ended we have close to 75 new Memberships! As exciting as this is, we now realize that Members have to make their reservations early. Now for 2022, hold on to your hats and get ready for a great ride. Starting in January there is the opening of the Burgee Bar for Season. Then the creme de la crème Commodore’s Ball on January 22. This is a formal event with exciting entertainment that you will not want to miss. The end of January, we will have a dance party…Dancing the Night Away featuring a local popular band, Hat Trick. February will usher in a Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance with Rosetta Stone. Dancing shoes are in order. The Blessing of the Fleet is a special February event that you will not want to miss. Keep an eye out for Bridge notices to give insight on time and appropriate dress. A Signature Event will be held on March 1 - the Mardi Gras! We will pull out all the stops as the Saints Come Marching In. There will be lots of music, beads and boas. MIYC Members, Kathy and Roy Hershberger, who live part time in New Orleans, will bring the authentic touches to this fabulous event. We also have March Madness night with a hoops competition. Then on March 19, the Prom. We can appropriately call it “The Senior Prom”. The music will feature our special songs from the 60s and 70s as well as today. So, find your White Sports Coat and the Pink Carnation. Ladies, you remember how to dress for a prom, right? And, everyone’s favorite, our own Kentucky Derby which we call Hats and Horses. Mark May 7 on your calendar. Now, in addition to Signature Events, and Club events like burgee dances, there are the wonderful dining events like Wine and Dine each month, High Tea, St. Patrick’s Day fare and Oktoberfest specialties. Each month there is a first class Book Club, a Golf Outing, and men’s and women’s Bridge Games. And, of course, sign up for weekly Bridge, Canasta and Mah Jongg games. All, this and Bridge events. Our Member Events Committee works hard to make your events special. If you are interested in joining us, we always welcome new women and men.
