January 2022 Anchorlines

MIYC Book Club Selections 2022 Welcome Back, Book Club Enthusiasts! We have some excellent selections for our 2022 Season. Our first meeting is Thursday, January 27 th , 12:00 noon. Our book selection is Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln , by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Few people knew more about the benefit of hardships than Abraham Lincoln. At an early age, he endured the loss of family members and suffered a strained relationship with his father. However, these experiences only strengthened Lincoln’s resolve and ambitions. Doris Kearns Goodwin explores the extraordinary array of personal qualities that allowed Lincoln, a prairie lawyer and former one-term congressman and now president, first to appoint, then to win over, men who had previously opposed him, revealing how Lincoln's bold and brilliant actions helped him steer the country through its darkest days. Please join us for an educational and entertaining presentation by Kevin Hennessy and a book-themed luncheon creation by Chef Bob. Our season schedule is as follows: February (24 th ) The Lincoln Highway , by Amor Towles. Deb deVries, presenter. March (31 st ) On the Night of a Blood Moon , by local resident Peter Karl.
