● Preparation and expertise of faculty ● Level of students ● Type of environment ● Number, type, and condition of clients ● Number, type, and location of practice sites Additional consideration in placement is based on adequacy of the ratio for nurse faculty to: ● Assess students’ capability to function safely within the practice situation; ● Select and guide student experience; and ● Evaluate student performance. Preceptorship during final term is based on the following criteria: ● Preceptors must volunteer to work with students in the preceptorship experience ● Must possess effective critical thinking ● Must be clinically competent, and be patient advocates
Preceptors will have an unencumbered nursing license in Oregon and the willingness to teach, coach, and mentor students. Preceptor selection guidelines consist of but not limited to: two years of experience in assigned nursing area, willingness, interest, and motivation to accept the preceptor responsibilities, demonstration of effective communication and interpersonal skills, and no disciplinary action having been taken against them in the past two years. Community Health settings: In accordance with program policy and OSBN standards, when students are assigned to community-based practice sites, it is not mandatory for the faculty member to be consistently present on-site. However, the faculty member is required to maintain a meaningful presence and engage in appropriate, in-person participation with both the student and agency staff. The faculty member's role is to provide guidance, support, and supervision to the student during their nursing practice experience. While they may not be
