THE KING’S BUSINESS

particular time. That reason could be none other than the knowledge on his part that the time is at hand for the rising of “the B right and M orning S tar .” Wherefore, they “who watch for the morning” should see in this organization a further reason for their confidence that “the Coming of the Lord draweth nigh.” 7. Never before in the history op the race of Adam has a society been formed to await and prepare for the coming of a great Leader. The pamphlet truly says, in italic type, that “there would seem to be open ing before this Order an. opportunity to which, so far as we know, the history of the world presents no par allel.” Such unique preparations must presage the happening of an event without' parallel in the annals of man kind. Such indeed is the case. And thus it has come to pass, under our very eyes, that an organization is in process of formation by those who reject and deny the Christ of God, with the object of preparing a recep tion for Antichrist. That organiza tion will undoubtedly be more numer ous, more coherent, and better dis ciplined, than the little company of those who wait for God’s Son from heaven. ^Shall they also be more zeal ous, more fervent and more devoted? Shall it be said of any of us, “Now, therefore, why speak ye not a word of bringing the King back?” Let the example of the enemies of the truth serve rather to quicken our zeal and devotion, in order that we may sin cerely say from the heart: “I wait F or the L ord , my soul doth wait, and in Hrs W ord do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morn ing; I say, more than they that watch for the morning” (Psa. 130:5, 6).
living God.” Those vessels of wrath, who have fitted themselves for de struction, are actually admonished to prepare for Antichrist by developing in themselves “Christlike qualities.” This exhortation embodies the essence of the original lie of the Serpent, namely that man possesses the inher ent power to become “as God.” Un regenerate men are addressed as hav ing the power to “develop in them selves the Christlike qualities,” “to unfold in ourselves the spiritual life,” etc. Mrs. Besant has even the hardihood to apply the very words in which the Holy Spirit, by the mouth of the Apostle Peter, speaks of Christ, to those corrupt sinners whom she styles “the Great Ones of the race.” She says that an accused person would ordinarily “defend himself, or bring a suit for libel, or take some other means of that kind. Those are not the weapons of the Great Ones of the race. ‘When He was reviled He re viled not again; when He suffered He threatened not, but committed Him self to Him that judgeth righteous ly.’ ” Mrs. Besant does not fear to give utterance to this shocking blas phemy, but she prudently , refrains from telling her readers the source from which she took those words. BE ON GUARD. 6. We shall not dwell longer upon this new design of the resourceful enemy. Enough has been said to put upon their guard all readers who are likely to heed any warning as to the dangers of these “perilous times.” But one further observation we would make, namely, we may be sure that the great Opposer of God’s purposes had -a special reason for launching the Order of the Star of the East at this
