How we will do it NYC Health + Hospitals receives regular capital improvement funding from our city, state and federal government partners. We are also working hard to secure funding from public and private grants and philanthropic sources. Master planning efforts have begun at a few facilities and are gradually being rolled out to others to develop a comprehensive plan not just for each campus but for the entire system. These plans are a combination of new buildings, replacement buildings and renovation of existing buildings. How we will measure success Upgrading our facilities will be a long and expensive process. The best measure of success will be the health of the communities we serve. We will collect real-time data about the volume of patients that enter our doors and how quickly they return to their regular lives after being treated by our amazing clinicians. Healthier buildings will contribute to healthier people. Meet the Federal Government’s 2030 carbon goal by reducing waste and improving energy efficiency Why this is important

Although we specialize in keeping people healthy, the health care sector has historically been a major polluter, churning out more than 4.4% of global and 8.5% of U.S. carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. We will be a leader in changing that, for the health of the planet and the health of our communities.
We will transition into a low carbon and climate resilient health system which will minimize negative impacts on the environment and restore and improve it to protect the health and well-being of our communities and future generations. How we will do it We will use less energy, generate less waste, emit fewer pollutants, and implement more resilient projects. We will also work with local and federal government entities to obtain additional funding to strengthen our facilities to improve their climate resilience, particularly from sea level rise, heavy rainstorm events, heat waves and power outages How we will measure success We joined the Federal Government in signing a Climate Pledge in May 2022. Our success will be defined by how well we are progressing toward meeting the specific
