Stay Safe While Beating the Heat Summer Pool Safety Tips

Summer is in full swing! I hope those of you around my area in north Texas are staying cool. We’ve been spending some time in Crested Butte, Colorado, to get out of the heat. The hottest it normally ever gets on the mountain there in the summer is 72, with lows dipping to the high 30s at night. It’s certainly a nice break from the Texas heat! If any of you ever go to Crested Butte, reach out to me, and let’s connect. When we are home in Texas, we’ve been spending a lot of time in the pool. Asher loves to play in the pool. I think most kids love the water — I certainly did. He is 20 months old now. We’ve had him in swimming lessons for several months now. He went to lessons four times a week for several weeks. The lessons were only 10 minutes each. He doesn’t have a long attention span. The lessons have proven to be very effective, and we are still attending maintenance lessons and building on what he’s learned. He can roll over on his back and float without assistance, which is pretty impressive for him, not even being 2 years old yet. We still watch him like a hawk around the pool, as he’s certainly not anywhere close to being around the water unsupervised.

Some pool safety tips that we follow when at the pool with Asher:

• •

Always supervise children.

• • • •

Don’t dive in shallow water.

Now that it’s finally summer and the Texas sun is scorching, it is the perfect time to get out on the water; for many, this is the best time of year for boating. The Fort Worth area’s lakes and rivers present excellent recreational boating opportunities. Whether it’s for fishing, sailing, or simply relaxing out on the water, there’s something for everyone. Unfortunately, the careless actions of others can often result in serious injuries. Boat operators must protect everyone they encounter on the water, including other boaters, swimmers, and passengers. This duty applies to all vessels, no matter their size or type. Boaters must adhere to water safety regulations, which include prohibitions against excessive speeding, mandatory compliance with navigational buoys, and bans on operating a boat while intoxicated or distracted. The nature of many boat accident cases can be seen as similar to car accidents. Like car drivers, boaters are responsible for operating their vehicles safely. Failure to do so can result in civil liability if it leads to a collision. Injuries from boating accidents can be as severe as those from car crashes, including broken bones, head trauma, internal injuries, spinal cord damage, and death. Beyond medical expenses, boating accident victims often face significant financial and emotional impacts. The trauma from these incidents is everlasting and can lead to demands for non-economic damages for mental suffering. When a boating incident occurs, the negligent party may be held responsible for any damages caused. If you or a loved one has been injured due to someone else’s reckless or negligent behavior, a Fort Worth boat accident lawyer could assist you in pursuing compensation. They can work diligently to gather evidence, properly value your claim, and demand just payments from the defendants and their insurance companies. Our experienced attorneys at Aulsbrook Law Firm can assess the negligent party’s actions and help build a strong case. Contact our office today to explore your legal options; we are here to help! HOST A SUMMER BARBECUE FOR EVERYONE GRILL AND CHILL

Enjoying your own party can be more complicated than it sounds. Backyard barbecues are a high point of summer, but hosting one you enjoy with your guests requires planning. “If swimming is on the agenda, consider protecting new or light- colored indoor furniture with water-resistant covers so guests in wet swimsuits can sit wherever they want without stressing out their host,” says Calla Quinn, a TikTok influencer who recently posted tips on hosting up to 50 friends at your home. Another tip she shares is using of portable misting fans in dry climates. These devices create a fine mist to refresh passersby in seconds, and they are especially popular on patios and decks. If attendees offer to bring something, don’t hesitate to accept, and be specific about what you want — from lawn chairs to beach towels. Martha Stewart recommends having a stain remover on hand to manage stains and cloth towels that guests can use to wipe up spills. Expert hosts also recommend a self-serve bar for casual summer gatherings. Consider filling several 3-gallon drink dispensers with popular options. Depending on your guest list, you might offer family fare such as lemonade, iced tea, ice water, or premixed cocktails like strawberry vodka lemonade or passion fruit margaritas. Martha Stewart suggests allowing amateur mixologists to concoct their own beverages by setting out bottled juices, artisanal sodas, and kombucha. A stylish yet simple way to serve hors d’oeuvres and side dishes to complement your grilled entree is to assemble or have catered a charcuterie board. These feature finger foods such as meats, cheeses, olives, spreads, fruits, nuts, chips, and crackers. A fully stocked charcuterie board adds a decorative touch while keeping guests well-fed for hours, adding what Quinn calls “a real wow factor.” And to make sure your day ends well, look for disposable, compostable bamboo or wooden dishes. Searching for “eco-friendly tableware and cutlery” should turn up some good options. This one last detail can go a long way toward supporting sustainable living while ensuring you don’t spend any valuable party time cleaning up broken glass or washing dishes.

Medication Madness Proving Negligence in Drug-Related Injuries

Millions of individuals depend on drug companies for treatments ranging from heartburn control and pain relief to mood stabilization and blood pressure regulation. Because of this, drug manufacturers must ensure their products do not harm consumers. Unfortunately, manufacturer mistakes can lead to serious injuries. Taking the wrong drug or incorrect dosage can result in severe health consequences. Drug manufacturers must ensure that products like Valsartan and Zantac are safe for consumer use, meaning they should not pose any unnecessary risk when used as intended. Our lawyers can prove negligence in cases involving:

skilled attorney can identify the cause of the damages and prove negligence in court. Texas laws complicate claims against drug manufacturers. According to Texas Civil Practice and Remedies, if a product passes all government inspections, it is presumed safe for consumers. This also allows defendants to argue that their packaging and testing met all government requirements in cases alleging a failure to warn about side effects. Our attorneys can overcome this by proving the defendant did not follow testing regulations, concealed potential side effects, or failed to provide proper warning labels. Many individuals take certain medications to improve their health and manage chronic conditions. Injuries from these drugs can severely impact health, which can lead to months or years of rehabilitation. If a dangerous drug has harmed you or a loved one, our experienced Fort Worth drug lawyers can help you seek compensation. We will explain relevant law, evaluate your best legal options, and demand total compensation from at-fault drug makers. Give us a call today with all your questions and concerns!

A plaintiff can argue that a drug’s poor design caused unexpected side effects. However, the injury might stem from a manufacturing error that altered the drug’s chemistry. A

GUARD YOUR MIND, IGNITE YOUR LIFE BRAIN BOOST

Resist negative self-talk. Repetitive thoughts about ourselves get wired in over time, and “what gets wired in is what we manifest,” McDonald says. A 2021 study in Scientific Reports shows that brain scans of people who recite scripts expressing self-respect and self-confidence exhibit stronger connectivity in regions associated with motivation. However, it’s

The fast-paced modern lifestyle many subscribe to nowadays has lasting effects on our mental health — from broken sleep to chronic multitasking. A graduate student at the University of Arizona has ideas for protecting our brains from stress created by life’s hustle. Emily McDonald, a doctoral candidate in neuroscience who posts health advice as Em O nTheBrain on TikTok, lists these three things to avoid.

important to note that positive self-talk can also trigger overconfidence, leading to impulsivity and inaccurate responses on cognitive tests. Avoid highly processed foods. “There is plenty of science to show that what we eat affects our brains,” McDonald says. An eight-year study of 10,775 people showed that the cognitive functioning of people who ate highly processed foods, including hot dogs, pizza, pastries, white bread, cakes, and instant noodles, declined 28% faster than that of people who ate more fresh and unprocessed foods. A diet of highly processed foods speeds the aging of the brain, which no one wants.

Avoid your smartphone when you wake up. The brain is highly suggestible upon awakening, and “the content you consume … will have a greater impact on your mindset,” says McDonald, who is also a mental health coach on top of her doctoral work. Studies show that while waking up, the brain transitions from theta waves, a deeply relaxed, inward-focused state, to alpha waves, which promote alertness.

Reaching for a smartphone to look for texts or other content often triggers a dopamine release in the brain,

encouraging the user to repeat the activity. If this occurs first thing in the morning, it can disrupt your dopamine levels for the rest of the day, leading to a continuous need to check our phones.
