WELCOME
November 2024
Shalom,
The world’s biggest travel and tourism event – WTM in London – is fast approaching and our participation this year is more important than ever, not just to hear from our trade partners, but to also keep our finger on the pulse of an industry that has endured unprecedented challenges. Our presence at WTM is not just a statement of resilience but a commitment to staying prepared when the time comes to welcome visitors again. By engaging with key players such as tour operators, airlines, and other stakeholders, we are laying the groundwork for when international travel returns to full capacity. These connections are critical, ensuring that when the day comes for general tourism to bounce back, we can hit the ground running with the right strategies and partnerships in place. In addition to maintaining industry relationships, WTM offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with our key audiences, particularly the Jewish and Christian communities. These groups have been instrumental in shaping our visitor base in the last year, and continuing to nurture these relationships will be pivotal in ensuring a smooth return to pre-pandemic tourism levels. Meeting with partners, even during this time of uncertainty, helps strengthen existing collaborations and fosters innovative ideas for increasing visitation, particularly in niche markets that have remained resilient despite global travel restrictions. In essence, participation at WTM is more than just a checkbox on the travel and tourism calendar – it is an essential part of ensuring we remain visible, relevant, and prepared for the industry’s inevitable recovery. Through these ongoing efforts, we will be ready for the return of tourism, ready to welcome visitors, and ready to rebuild stronger than before.
Wishing you all a fruitful WTM 2024 and see you in London between 5th and 7th November at the Excel.

Israel’s Growing Incoming Travel and Tourism Drives Industry Resilience
Israel may become widely known as the ‘Startup Nation’ thanks to countless innovations in the fields of cybersecurity, communications, and technology, but the nation’s vibrant incoming travel and tourism industry is rapidly growing
I srael’s incoming travel and tourism ecosystem has plenty of cause for optimism moving forward. Crucially, July saw the government launch an Electronic Travel Authorization system to approve the entrance of tourists from visa-exempt countries. The move sees the Startup Nation join the likes of the United States, Canada, and Australia where similar systems are already in place.
In adopting an electronic authorization system, the technology has removed some of the typical obstacles that travellers face when boarding a flight to Israel. If the system doesn’t grant approval, applicants will be directed to a service center for further assistance. The timing of the nation’s visa waiver acceptance may be crucial for Israel’s travel and tourism startups. 2024 has seen venture funding rapidly accelerate among
Israeli startups, and a more streamlined tourism infrastructure may see more VC money allocated towards the industry’s brightest innovators. Venture funding in Israel grew by an astonishing 31% in the first half of 2024 in comparison to the same period last year. Many of the incoming tourism leaders have ideas about how to renovate and re-energize the flux of tourists coming to Israel.
Yossi Fatael, the CEO of the Israel’s Incoming Tour Operators Association

Yossi Fatael, the CEO of the Israel’s Incoming Tour Operators Association, says that “Inbound tourism doesn’t happen overnight. And today in front of our colleagues abroad, there is interest, and they are waiting for us. Incoming tourism will take time to recover. Let’s take the Corona virus for example. It took her a year and a half, or even almost two years to recover”. “The first half of 2025 seems already lost to us”,
says Fatael and adds: “but if peace breaks out here in the next month or two, then we will have to start restoring tourism. They will be available, so we can restore tourism. But in my estimation, it will be at least two whole years, from the moment the crisis ends, until we return to some sort of sanity and normality”. “One of the most difficult problems we will have the day after, for example, is that we will not have
employees. The government and the Minister of Tourism, fortunately Haim Katz - who saved about a thousand workers, by obtaining the support of 70 million ILS, because we are saving a thousand workers with zero income. As said, we don’t have businesses without employees and it’s not employees that can be recruited, after the crisis like any other business. These are employees with a lot of experience, connections,

“The relevant authorities in Israel must examine mechanisms to preserve these infrastructures, most of which, after such a long period of crisis lasting almost a year, directed resources to other destinations and countries, some of which did not survive the crisis” The return of the airlines is the fundamental and most important basis for the restoration of incoming tourism. Douk continues and says: “The crisis in incoming tourism caused a lot of damage to many tourist infrastructures, both in Israel and in the world. Infrastructures built over responsible parties in the country must act on several levels. Action should be taken as much as possible to return flights to Israel. With the outbreak of the crisis, many airlines stopped flying to Israel and as the security threat increased, more companies joined the circle. The effort to bring them back should focus on flights from North America as an important destination country and Central Europe.
“Bringing back tourism to Israel is essential not only as oxygen for the industry, but also as part of a broad process of improving the wounded image of the State of Israel in the world” offices without actually doing anything, only that they can return the day after, and even there we will have a serious problem of personnel. So even when we start working, there will be many operational problems concerning tourism and hotels in Israel”. How will you bring back tourism to Israel? “Israel needs to be rebranded. It is impossible to come back after such a crisis with the sediments we left, and come back with the same messages and the same slogan, etc. We need something that takes into account what that happened, and still calls for some kind of re- discovery. From studies that we have read all over the world, it is very important for all countries that have

And at the same time, we are thinking and working, for example, to receive incoming tourism. The day after is a day of war, which should be prepared for now. People in the world think that you are sitting at home and shooting missiles at you all day. If there was a strategic decision that tourism in general and tourism in particular was needed, then we would sit down now”. DON’T MISS THE IMTM 2025 AT THE TEL AVIV EXPO ON MAY 7-8, 2025
I MTM 2025 will celebrate 31 years with its central and significant focus alongside the war, with the aim of helping, supporting and rehabilitating the Israeli tourism The annual and international tourism exhibition IMTM (International Mediterranean Tourism Market) 2025, will be held in Israel for the 31st time. Following the ‘Iron Swords’ war, inbound tourism was almost completely stopped and in many parts of Israel in the north and
south tourism decreased dramatically. The largest IMTM tourism exhibition in the Middle East has always been a significant part of the promotion and leveraging of Israeli tourism in Israel and the world, and during the war it is part of the restoration of the tourism industry that needs more than ever to start and grow. Despite the war, the organizers of the exhibition anticipate that Israeli tourism exhibitors will participate, as well as from countries around
the world. The IMTM exhibition is intended for all those involved in the various branches of tourism – domestic tourism, inbound tourism as well as countries and tourism agencies from abroad. As every year, the exhibition is expected to be a colorful and joyful celebration in which desirable destinations will be revealed, impressive local and international pavilions will be presented. The exhibition includes meetings and
interpersonal connections, lectures and conferences. In addition, there is a program for invited agents in which hundreds of decision-makers from around the world come who market Israel as a tourist destination. In 2024, the exhibition was held during the height of the war and thanks to the great reputation and significance of IMTM in the world of tourism, even during the height of the war, exhibitors from the countries of the world came to participate, including

Romania, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Greece and more. The purpose of postponing the date of the exhibition is to enable the widest possible participation of countries and exhibitors from Israel and the world and to help restore tourism in Israel, as well as to continue to strengthen the position of the Israeli tourist vis-a-vis tourism destinations in Israel and the world. The countries exhibiting at the IMTM 2025 exhibition will be represented by national and regional tourism offices, convention centers, hotels, resorts, shipping companies, car rental companies, airlines
from various countries, tourism agents, travel agencies, tourist destination management companies, trade associations, service providers and attractions of various types in the field of tourism from around the world. The exhibition, organized by “Ortra” Ltd. and Israel Travel News, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, will take place between May 7-8 at Expo Tel Aviv. You can register for free with a quick and simple registration through the official website of IMTM 2025.
“Against the background of the complex security situation, the tourism industry in Israel is experiencing a particularly challenging period, from tourists who have stopped coming to hotels that remain empty in the northern region. We believe that the existence of the tourism exhibition these days is a significant value for Israeli tourism, as well as a significant platform for strengthening business relations between Israel and the world at a time when the industry is going through challenges, the exhibition is a revival for renewed growth and rehabilitation of the tourism industry in Israel”.

The plane is still undergoing maintenance processes in the USA and only after they are completed is expected to be handed over to El Al and put into service, most likely mainly on the company’s short premium routes to Europe such as Paris and London, alongside the flights to Thailand. It can be estimated that only new planes delivered to the company will be painted with the new paint and the company will not paint old planes at this stage. This, in light of the high demand for flights, especially in the current period, and the fact that painting an airplane requires taking it out of service for a considerable period.

THE OLD CITY OF AKKO INVITES YOU TO DISCOVER ITS SECRETS ABOVEGROUND AND BELOW
Old Akko (Acre) is a port city situated on a peninsula on the Mediterranean coast in northern Israel. It is known for its well-preserved old city walls. A visit to this ancient city is an important part of the Holy Land experience and one of Israel’s main tourist destinations. Currently home to thousands of residents, Akko is a study of contrasts – the convergence of East and West, modernity and antiquity, beauty and ruins. Known for centuries as the gateway to the Holy Land due to its location as a port of entry for international dignitaries and trade, Akko provides a unique glimpse into the Crusader and Ottoman periods in the region. The subterranean crusader city was revealed and restored under the Ottoman city above. This extraordinary phenomenon was awarded World Heritage Site by UNESCO. POINTS OF INTEREST: The Knights’ Kingdom A 5,000-year old story unfolds inside the halls of the citadel - the museum’ displays and films projected on the walls tell the story of the crusades. During this tour, each visitor receives a headset, and can choose one of 10 different languages. The Hospitaller Fortress The Hospitaller Order, which thrived in Jerusalem during the First Crusader Kingdom (1099-1187) transferred its headquarters to Akko during the Second Crusader Kingdom (1191-1291). The
Hospitallers expanded their headquarters and rebuilt the site, which consisted of two to three floors around a central court as
well as underground sections. The Templars Tunnel
The Templars were a military-monastic order who – in the name of the pope – aided pilgrims and the ailing coming from Europe to visit the holy sites of the Land of Israel. MORE POINTS OF INTEREST: The colorful Market Street and Bazaars are the main thoroughfare of the Old City, running from north to south. One cannot visit the city without tasting the delicious dishes at the wonderful Chef Restaurants and paying a visit at the unique Boutique Hotels.
