and a flask-shaped bottle filled with vinegar. (Put the buns in the first bag and the other articles in the second.) Lesson: I want to tell you this morning about a boy mentioned in the Bible, who was glad he had something to give to the Lord Jesus. Jesus had been teaching the multitude out in the country where there was no place to buy food. They were hungry. The disciples wanted to send them away to the town to buy food, but Jesus asked the disciples whether they had any food. A boy with a lunch was found, and he gladly gave what he had to Jesus. Jesus blessed the lunch and caused a miracle to take place so that there was enough food for five thousand men besides women and children (Matt. 14:21). Let’s open this paper sack and see what is in it. Here are five buns, to remind us of the five small loaves in the boy’s lunch that was given to Jesus. Mark 6:53: And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore. 54 And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him, 55 And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was. 56 And whithersoever he entered, into vil lages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole. Judges 13:12 And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto< him? 13 And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah, Of all that I said untoi the woman let her beware. 14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe. 1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, breth ren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God. Golden Text: “ Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing” (Judg. 13:4). Devotional Reading: 1 John 2:12-17. Outline and Exposition I. T he C ompassion of th e L ord (Mk. 6:53-56) C HRIST went with His disciples across the sea, seeking rest, but when they had left their boat, the people at once knew Him and thronged about Him (vs. 53, 54). His fame had gone abroad through all that region, and because of the works of goodness which He did, the people gathered about Him (v. 55). Even

What do you think would have happened if this boy had been carrying a sack like this other one? W e will look in and see what there is in it. D ice! Jesus would not have used anything like these if the boy had been carrying them. There is something more in this sack. A cigarette! I am sure that Jesus would not have used such as this, to bless the multitude. Some people have nothing more to offer others than a smoke. I next find a card, and a bottle which reminds us of a whiskey bottle.. (Announce that each of these objects is an imitation, that it is dangerous to touch the real things, for a person should never get used to handling them.) The Lord Jesus would never use such things.. I think the boy was glad that his sack had in it things that Jesus could and would use. Make sure you have the Bread of Heaven, Christ Jesus, and then the Mastei will use that which you have to bless multi tudes of people. T o the onlooker, the scene must have suggested that Jesus was having great success in His work. But alas! It was then as is frequently the case today—the people gathered merely for what physical or ma terial help they could obtain from H im ; they were little inclined to accept the spiritual help He yearned to bestow. How ever, while our Lord knew, there was little heart among the people for the spiritual blessing. He was ever ready to alleviate physical distress even though there was no faith present. Nearly everybody is willing to follow the Lord if he is assured that physical blessing will come to him, and it is to be feared that some who are ac counted disciples today are not greatly interested in the spiritual good our Lord wishes to impart. II. T he I nstruction from th e L ord (Judg. 13:12-14) Manoah’s wife had been told by the angel of the Lord that she was to give birth to a son who would be a Nazarite (cf. vs. 2-5). A Nazarite was one who wa* separated unto the Lord in a special sense (cf. Num. 6:1-8). The idea that this passage has to do with the general subject of temperance in the matter of strong drink is a concept that is rather forced into thes* BLACKBOARD LESSON the touch of the hem of His garment carried healing power (v. 56).
