“ Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? And when they logked, they saw that the stone was rolled away” (Mk. 16:3, 4). Is there anything that melts the heart more than the Lord’s patience, His gentle handling, His tender bearing with our fears, while all the time He is preparing surprises of delight for us that no storm can shatter? How often He has shamed us with His kindness: And then at last, at last, there was per formance, and He whose name is wonderful revealed His plan. All through those silent months His hand had been working at the other end.ilAMY C a r m ich ael . MARCH 4 Generating Power “All things work together for good to them that love God” (Rom. 8:28). Many people are wanting power. Now how is power produced? The other day we passed the great works where the trolley engines are supplied with electricity. We heard the hum and roar of the countless wheels, and we asked our friend, “ How do they make the power?” “Why,” he said, “just by the revolution of those wheels and the friction they produce. The rubbing creates the electric current.” Likewise, when God wants to bring more power into your life, He brings more pressure. He is generating spiritual force by hard rubbing. — A. B. S im pson . MARCH 5 Our Great Need “For ye have need of patience , that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise” (Heb. 10:36). W e have need of patience when we re view our service for the Master. W e have borne our testimony to His saving grace and keeping power; we have preached the glad tidings; we have labored in the Sun day-school, and in the mission hall, and on the foreign field: but so little seems to have come out of it all. How easy it is to grow impatient, and to indulge in a mood of despair! . . . The perfect work of patience is seen in those whose lives are surrendered ever more fully to God, and who place all their resources at His gra cious disposal.^;!,*/* of Faith . “ Always hath the daylight broken, Always hath He comfort spoken, Better hath He been for years Than thy fears.”
“In the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up” (Psa. 5:3). Begin the day with God. So shall its hours be spent In freedom from all care, And holy, sweet content. Begin each day with God, And nothing shall befall But what is best for thee; For God will order all. Begin this day with God, And thou wilt then abide In safety all the day With Him, thy God and Guide. — F airelie T h ornton . " Consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus” (Heb. 3:1). “ Consider him that endured” (Heb. 12:3). You cannot look at Him on the cross as the disciples did; you cannot see the blood streaming from His five deep wounds; you cannot see Him shedding His blood that the blood of sinners might not be shed . . . The atonement has been made, Christ has died, Hisi sufferings are all past. And how is it that you do not enjoy peace ? It is be cause you do not consider. ‘‘Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.” Consider— has Jesus died in the stead of guilty sinners, and do you heartily consent to take Jesus to be the Man in your stead? Then you do not need to die. Oh, happy believer, rejoice evermore! Live within sight o f Calvary, and you will live within sight of glory! — R obert M u r r ay M c C h e y n e .
