When I found out about the hybrid course, I knew I had to jump at the opportunity. This allowed me to carry out my lectures from my own home and only have to travel to Dublin once a week. I loved being a student at Trinity, the lecturers were always more than willing to help if I had any issues. It has led me to pathways I never even thought of. Currently I am working on a general children’s ward and am moving to ED in the new year. The course has equipped me with a new set of skills and a greater knowledge into children’s nursing. As I reflect upon my nursing career, I realise that obtaining an MSc in Gerontological Nursing had a pivotal role in fulfilling my dream of becoming a Clinical Placement Coordinator. My discipline was Intellectual Disability Nursing and gaining a Master’s involved researching a relevant topic [in the field]. I thoroughly enjoyed interviewing service users. As a result of having a Master's I feel I was a very good role model to student nurses and my colleagues. I would highly recommend studying for a Master’s in Gerontological Nursing. Specialist Nursing – Intensive Care Tenzin Yiewong, Clinical Nurse Manager, St James’s Hospital
“I was awarded the highest end of year mark at distinction level in M.Sc. in Specialist Nursing - Intensive Care Nursing by Trinity College Dublin. I also had the privilege of presenting my thesis posters at local, national and international level and won prizes for the same. Later, I published my Master's thesis on "Early sedation with dexmedetomidine in post- operative adult intensive care unit patients" with the Nursing in Critical Care Journal by British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN). Trinity helped transform me, a Tibetan refugee girl with hopes, dreams and ambitions into an internationally published author and a well-rounded nurse! Trinity offers a very high standard curriculum along with excellent professors which gave me the opportunity to challenge and push my own educational limits to its peak. Since I started my postgraduate journey at Trinity, I had a steep vertical growth in my career at St. James's Hospital ranging from working as a skilled ICU bedside nurse to an interim Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) in ICU to further getting promoted as CNM2 and now being the departmental head of the Cardiothoracic Unit where I represent critical care unit proudly from CNM3 point of view.”

Specialist Nursing – Renal Nestor Rena, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Nephrology, Tallaght University Hospital “I work in Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) which is affiliated to Trinity College Dublin. My Postgraduate Diploma was fully funded by TUH. Also, my daughter is studying in Trinity. TCD offers a combination of face to face and online lectures that provides flexibility and balance for a very busy life as a student, employee and a family man. I worked as a Clinical Nurse Manager during my postgraduate course, and [the course] did help me in my role as a manager in promoting change in my department. My confidence has grown in difficult situations and dealing with my staff, patients and other colleagues. Five months after completing my studies, I was lucky to get the post for Clinical Nurse Specialist. It really opened up a lot of big opportunities in my nursing career. I got to meet a lot of professional and mature students, like me, and took the opportunity for networking. I enjoyed lectures and being given the opportunity by the lecturer to have an open discussion and challenge the subject.”
Breda Blessing, Staff Nurse, University Hospital Limerick
“I forged lifelong friendships with peers from diverse backgrounds, a testament to Trinity’s remarkable academic reputation and exceptional opportunities. It uniquely blends a rich history with a vibrant campus culture that embraces tradition and innovation. The rigorous academic curriculum gave me a strong foundation in cancer care principles, patient care and the latest research. I developed essential clinical skills. Interacting with a diverse cohort enriched my understanding of various cultural approaches to care. This has been invaluable in my day-to-day practice. The comprehensive curriculum allowed me to blend theoretical knowledge with practical skill development, giving me the tools to excel in my field. The supportive community fostered collaboration and growth, making a significant impact on my career and personal development. “I had completed my Master's in Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health at Trinity and enjoyed the opportunity to reflect and write on my practice as well as reading relevant and up-to-date research. Studying [the Nursing Advanced Practice programme] at this advanced level gave me the opportunity to reflect on my practice and open up new opportunities. These opportunities have given me the ability and confidence to manage patient care more independently and include a systemic assessment, diagnosis with advanced investigations and treatment. It has helped me take ownership of my specialised area and deliver care in an informed manner. It has afforded me the opportunity to help and educate colleagues in this area and influence policy making.”

Hear from a Graduate Donagh O’Brien, Community Mental Health Nurse “I am very proud to have recently graduated from the MSc in Clinical Health Sciences Education at Trinity College Dublin. I have worked full time as a mental health nurse for the past 21 years, during which time I have become passionate about the preceptorship and clinical education of nursing students, a key aspect of my role of Community Mental Health Nurse. I chose to undertake the MSc in CHSE to further explore, expand and formalise my interest in nursing education and completion of this course has allowed me to achieve these goals. The course provides a comprehensive foundation in education theory, teaching skills, curriculum design and research. There is also a practical element in the form of 100 hours of teaching, through which I gained invaluable experience and improved confidence from delivering lectures and clinical education to undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students at two Dublin Universities. Preparing a lecture and delivering it to a classroom full of students was a new and challenging experience for me but ultimately highly rewarding. I had prior experience of undertaking postgraduate education before I began the Master's in CHSE, so I knew that managing a full-time job and part time education as well as juggling all other aspects of life would be tough. The academic staff in the School of Nursing & Midwifery at Trinity are aware of the challenges that postgraduate students face and for me they were helpful and supportive throughout. I would strongly recommend the MSc in CHSE to anyone with an interest in nursing or healthcare education.”
