Brief Overview If you are a Registered Nurse with an undergraduate degree, and wish to pursue a career in children’s nursing, you can study for the award of Higher Diploma in Children’s Nursing Structure (Timeline/Days in Class) This Higher Diploma in Children’s Nursing programme The course consists of both classroom and practice learning over one full year (52 weeks) commencing in September. • Theory: 12 weeks (online and face-to-face, divided over three semesters). • Practice: 40 weeks (clinical practice experience that spans medical/surgical nursing, high dependency, specialist nursing and community experience). For the duration of the course, you will be an employee of either Children's Health Ireland or Saolta University Health Care Group, and a registered student at Trinity College Dublin. is delivered in partnership with Children’s Health Ireland and Saolta University Health Care Group.
Career Opportunities Following successful completion of the programme, you can work and specialise in several areas including; Neonatal Nursing, Intensive Care, Peri-Operative and Emergency Department Nursing. Postgraduate specialist programmes that children’s nurses can pursue include an MSc in Nursing – Advancing Child Health and Wellbeing. It is anticipated that the new Children’s Hospital will lead to many new opportunities for children’s nurses to progress their careers.
