Hear from a Graduate Donagh O’Brien, Community Mental Health Nurse “I am very proud to have recently graduated from the MSc in Clinical Health Sciences Education at Trinity College Dublin. I have worked full time as a mental health nurse for the past 21 years, during which time I have become passionate about the preceptorship and clinical education of nursing students, a key aspect of my role of Community Mental Health Nurse. I chose to undertake the MSc in CHSE to further explore, expand and formalise my interest in nursing education and completion of this course has allowed me to achieve these goals. The course provides a comprehensive foundation in education theory, teaching skills, curriculum design and research. There is also a practical element in the form of 100 hours of teaching, through which I gained invaluable experience and improved confidence from delivering lectures and clinical education to undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students at two Dublin Universities. Preparing a lecture and delivering it to a classroom full of students was a new and challenging experience for me but ultimately highly rewarding. I had prior experience of undertaking postgraduate education before I began the Master's in CHSE, so I knew that managing a full-time job and part time education as well as juggling all other aspects of life would be tough. The academic staff in the School of Nursing & Midwifery at Trinity are aware of the challenges that postgraduate students face and for me they were helpful and supportive throughout. I would strongly recommend the MSc in CHSE to anyone with an interest in nursing or healthcare education.”
