Hear from a Graduate Ciara Glynn, Peer Support Worker, HSE “I was born into poverty, in a working-class family where education was never a priority for me, my family or many people in my community. I experienced many childhood traumas that made it impossible for me to learn in school. I left school at 16 without a Leaving Certificate, therefore, I am not a natural academic. Over time as I progressed through the course, I took pride in how my work improved. I found out that there are so many different ways to learn and to study. Returning to education as an adult has changed my life. I applied to Trinity as the Master’s in Mental Health looked like an interesting course. The contemporary themes and modules were highly relevant to mental health in Ireland, and internationally. My desire to explore and deepen my understanding in this area was primarily to enhance my practice as a Peer Support Worker. As I progressed through the course, I realised that the benefits would extend far beyond this. I have experienced immense growth both personally and professionally. It's been a challenging yet truly rewarding experience. Since completion of the course, I have been invited to numerous universities as guest lecturer to deliver content on peer support, mental health and recovery. I have also just recently joined the board of Mental Health Reform as Expert Director by Lived Experience.”
