Calving Ease Stars In order to help identify whether we recommend a bull to use on heifers or cows; we use calving ease stars.

Indicates that the bull should work well on heifers He should work on larger heifers as well as cows We recommend that you only use him on cows

We have chosen to list actual BW. That being said, 1st calf heifers typically have calves that weigh 7# less than if they were mature; 2nd calvers are typically down by 4#. The reverse is also true: If a 3-10 yr old were a first calf heifer, her calf would typically weigh 7# less using the same mating. BW influences CE by 65%. Between environment and genetics; the female is responsible for 60-70% of the BW of the calf; whereas the sire is responsible for 30-40%.
