THE K I NG ' S BUS I NES S

Today she has buried her sorrow and is going forth to comfort others with the comfort she herself has gained from the Living Word found through the Writ ten Word. Mè É è Biola Hall D. T. Cant, Supt. When we decided to reopen Biola Hall in our present location over a year ago, few, if any, of us who gathered there that day to definitely set it apart by prayer for the service of God, estimated the far reaching results of the work. Every one of us had some little vision,— for where. there is no vision the people perish,—but we had still to experiment ally learn that “little is much when God is in it.” The way God has blessed and graciously given thé increase will only be fully known in “that day,” but what our eyes have already seen and our ears have also heard calls forth a con tinuous note of praise and thanksgiving while we can gratefully say “What hath 'God wrought!" There is business going on all the time here. Recently in one single week there were, with the assist ance of the students and workers, three hundred and twenty-five personal inter views with men and hoys regarding their souls’ welfare, and out from that goodly number we had the joy of seeing twenty- four make a definite decision for Christ. That same week between three and four thousand souls heard the good news from the entrance of the Hall. We gave out over fifteen hundred “Do You Know?” tracts, etc., beside many copies of John’s Gospel and New Testaments. Follow-Up Work A large proportion of our converts be long to the drifting population of Los Angeles, many are visitors from the East and not a few come from adjoining cities and towns. Every month we follow, these up with letters, tracts, etc., and even secure some of them for our Converts’ Bible Class, where they have opportunity to get rooted and grounded in the funda mental truths of the Book. We have many interesting experiences in this field. Recently two young men came in for a noon day meeting being attracted by the men’s singing. We were leading the meeting, facing the entrance and noticed one man tugging and pulling to keep the other from entering, hut fin ally he reluctantly shuffled in behind his more courageous “buddie.” The hack seats were, as usual, filled; so they were obliged to come well forward. It began

to get too hot for the one and not being able to draw his companion away, he twisted and squirmed, and finally made a bolt for the door. The other lad stayed and came out into an open confession for Christ. One of the boys took him to din ner while another got busy on the phone and by the time they returned, had landed a fine job for him. The other hoy, for all we know, is still drifting, ship wrecked on life’s stormy sea. Hope For the Despondent A few nights later on we were stand ing, watching for souls, when one of the most dejected, despondent young men we have beheld in many a day shuffled by. He looked as if he hadn’t a friend or a cent in the world; but we thought of that poor soul at the well of Samaria, a most un likely subject for a real convert, and spoke to the lad. He was one of those very silent fellows, hard to get a word from, but we finally persuaded him to step inside and began with the story that never grows old. There was a deep need and it really seemed to us, material to work on; so we kept at him until finally he was on his knees, asking God to re ceive him for Jesus Christ’s sake. “All the fitness He requireth is to feel our need of Him.” It was touching to see his bewildered surprise when the boys supplied all his immediate needs and promised to secure him work, and after a day or two of testing, a good job was landed for him. As we looked at that changed face, so bright, happy and shin ing, it was hard to believe he could he the same boy who only an hour before had passed by, without hope and without God in the world. There was, however, an extra surprise in store for us, for the following night at the Fishermen’s Club a fisher of men intrdouced us to a lad that he had picked up in the park and led to Christ that very afternoon, and when our lad and this one met at the Club, we discovered that these two had been buddies in another city, both let out from the place where they had been working, and now met as real brothers- in-Christ. There is hut one failure, and that is not to he true to the best one knows. Undertake some labor for Christ that the devil may always find thee occupied. He who would serve God wisely and well will use today’s strength only for the duties of today. When the heart is converted, the purse will be inverted.
