LES NATIONALS DE ROCKLAND BRILLENT EN SÉRIES ÉLIMINATOIRES

« Nous sommes une équipe plus jeune que les Hawks de Hawkesbury. » C’est ce qu’a fait remarquer l’entraineur des Nationals de Rockland, Dan Sauvé, le 18 mars dernier. Celui-ci se disait fière que son équipe ait remporté leur première partie des séries éliminatoires contre les Hawks. « Hawkesbury est une équipe plus âgée, une équipe plus physique, a-t-il expliqué. Ils ont eu plusieurs pénalités en première période et nos joueurs ont très bien joué en supériorité numérique. » Les Nats affrontaient les Hawks le 17 mars dernier, à l’aréna CIH de Rockland. Les jeunes joueurs de Dan Sauvé ont vite fait de prendre le dessus. Trente secondes à peine dans le match, Aidan Hilton de Rockland a marqué, donnant l’avance à son équipe. C’est ensuite Gunnar Smith des Nats qui a compté en fin de première période. Lors de la deuxième période, les rivaux ont réussi à égaliser le pointage, suite à deux buts de la part de Matthew Titus et Jérémie Lavallée. C’est donc en début de troisième période que Rockland a cimenté sa victoire, à la suite d’un but de Matthew Vermaetan. Les Nats affrontaient de nouveau les Hawks à Hawkesbury, le soir du 19 mars der- nier, mais les résultats de la partie n’étaient pas disponibles à l’heure de mettre sous presse. La troisième partie aura lieu le 22 mars à 20 h 30, à Rockland, et la quatrième le 23 mars à Hawkesbury à 19 h 30. Si nécessaire, les deux équipes s’affronteront le 25 mars à Rockland à 19 h 30, le 26 mars à Hawkesbury à 19 h 30 et le 29 mars à Rockland à 19 h 30. De plus, le chanteur de Plantagenet Martin Houle sera de la partie le 23 mars, dès 19 h 30. « On va avoir la même stratégie lors de nos prochains matchs », a fait valoir M. Sauvé. On va utiliser notre talent et on va tenter de créer plus de possibilités. » Une fin de saison remplie de victoires SI on avait dit à l’entraineur que son équipe terminerait si bien la saison régu- lière, celui-ci aurait été surpris. « Nous avons plusieurs jeunes joueurs, a-t-il sou- ligné. On a aussi perdu trois de nos quatre premiers matchs. Mais on a vite commencé à en gagner. » La fin de la saison régulière s’est très bien passée pour Rockland, puisque les Nats ont remporté leurs six derniers matchs. « Je crois vraiment que ça nous a stimulés pour notre premier match contre Hawkesbury », a confié l’entraineur. Rockland a terminé la saison en deuxième position de sa division avec une fiche exemplaire de 40 victoires, 17 défaites, 3 défaites en période de prolongation et 2 défaites en tirs de barrage. « On a eu des bons résultats, a dit M. Sauvé. Nos gars ont joué du bon hockey. » « On va avoir la même stratégie lors de nos prochains matchs. On va utiliser notre talent et on va tenter de créer plus de possibilités.»
The Rockland Nationals headed for the playoffs for the second year in a row. They beat rivals Hawkesbury Hawks three to two on March 18, in Rockland. The two teams played game two in Hawkesbury on March 19, but results weren’t available as of press time. The team with the biggest “bite” will be the winner as the Vankleek Hill Cougars and the Clarence Creek Castors line up their players for the National Capital Junior Hockey League’s championship final series. The Cougars brought down the South Grenville Rangers four games to two in their semifinal series. The last game played on St. Patrick’s Day in the Cougars Den, at the Vankleek Hill Arena, finished 5-4 for the home team. Justin Labrosse punched in a pair of goals and assisted on another during the match. Fellow Cougars Nicolas Cas- tonguay, Tyler Dopelhamer, and Jonathan Lacroix each scored singles. Also helping on the goal-scoring were Dopelhamer, Ryan Allen, Hugo Blanchard, Danny Plourde- Grenon, and Jacbo Trempe, with Frederick Durocher guarding the net. Goals for the Rangers in the final game of their semifinals series with the Cougars included two by Jack Finnerty, who also assisted on another goal, and singles from Tristian Loomis and Brody Ranger, who both assisted on other goals. Also helping on the goal scoring were Mathieu Giroux, Zach Hotte, and Jordan Poulin, with Lee Spurgeon in the net. The previous remaining games in the semifinals between Vankleek Hill and South Grenville finished with scores of 6-5 and 9-3 for the Rangers, which kept South Grenville in the running, while the Cougars added to their original two wins with a 5-4 victory Saturday at the Cardinal Arena, to tie up the series before Sunday’s clincher. Scoring for Vankleek Hill during the three games leading up to Sunday’s final were Nikolas Ayotte, Nicolas Caston- guay, Tyler Dopelhamer, Justin Labrosse, Jonathan Lacroix, Zacharie Leblanc, Keen McEachern, Danny Plourde-Grenon, Joey Simoneau, and Jacob Trempe. Assisting on the goals were Ayotte, Castonguay, Dopel- hamer, Labrosse, Lacroix, McEachern, Plourde-Grenon, Simoneau, Trempe, Ryan Allen, Hugo Blanchard, Vincent Huneault, Tristan Lavoie, Jonathan Leblanc, and

The National Capital Junior Hockey League will announce the finals’ game schedule between the Cougars and the Castors on its website. Clarence Creek Clarence Creek earned its place in the National Capital Junior Hockey League finals with an 8-6 win against North Dundas, at the Chesterville Arena on March 14, and a final 3-2 clipping on home last Friday night. Zack Lugli scored a hat trick for the Castors during the Chesterville match. Punching in singles to finish the game for Clarence Creek were Tyler Baker, Samuel Gaudet (Number 2), Patrick Lemay, Sam Paquette, and Raphaël Payant. Assisting on the goals were Gaudet, Lemay, Payant, Étienne Agius-Pease, Aiden Cannell, Matthew Clifford, Vincent Martel, and Sam Paquette.
Corey Camirand guarded the Castors’ net in both games. Goals for the Rockets last Thursday came from Connor Roth with two, plus singles by Kyle Collette, Justin Lefebvre, Hugo Lusignan, and Bradley Stitt. Assisting were Collette, Lefebvre, Roth, Stitt, Tyler Ballantyne, Cameron Brown, Tom Fingler, and Jack van Kessel. Reilly Tondreau was in the goal for both games. Friday night’s final game saw goals for Clarence Creek from Gaudet, Lemay, and Martel, with Martel and Lemay also providing goal assists. Brodie Barkley and Cameron Brown scored for North Dundas, with help from Fingler, Roth, Pierce Egan, and Jarrett Williams. The National Capital Junior Hockey League will announce the final series game schedule between the Cougars and the Castors on its website.
