Significant signs of improvement!

Back in the fall, aclientcame tomewithapainfulshouldershehad tweaked during a fitness class. This client was an avid tennis player and pickleballer who took great pleasure in staying active and healthy. Being a healthcare practitioner herself, she was very motivated to learn all that she could in order to return to her favorite activities as soon as possible. My initialassessment indicated apossible low-grade rotator cuff injury that typicallyheals relativelyquicklywitha fewweeksof treatmentandexercise. At first, she responded well to her treatment program and it seemed as though she would be back to pickleballing in no time! However, after a few weeks, the pain and stiffness returned getting more painful every day. It seemed as though she was developing a “frozen shoulder” – a most painful and debilitating condition that can last upwards of 2 years! Yikes!

The diagnosis was more or less confirmed by MRI and her physician recommended trying an aggressive procedure to manipulate the joint under anaesthetic. This option did not appeal to my client so she returned to the clinic and together we built a plan to not only help her manage through her pain but also to incorporate a home exercise program in to her routine to help strengthen and stretch the effected area. Her condition continued to be monitored during bi-weekly treatments at the clinic. Within a few short weeks, my client’s hard work was beginning to pay off. An injury that typically takes several years to recover from was showing significant signs of improvement - her shoulder started to loosen up and her pain was starting to go away. After several months of treatment, I’m happy to say this patient was discharged and is back to her regular routine of tennis and pickleball.
