Supporting Tasmania’s Growing Connectivity

much per day as leisure travellers. They travel outside peak holiday periods and often extend their stay into regional areas – bringing business into our hospitality industry across the entire state during the shoulder periods.

With Tasmania’s connectivity expanding, Business Events Tasmania (BET) is aligning its efforts to support growth and bring high-value visitors into the state. The recent return of Air New Zealand’s Auckland– Hobart route, Qantas’ upcoming direct flights between Perth and Hobart, and upgrades to Hobart Airport are making it easier for international travellers to reach Tasmania from key markets across Asia, Europe and the US. This will help remove barriers for international event organisers when considering Tasmania as a destination. To prepare for this increased connectivity BET recently attended IMEX Frankfurt, one of the world’s largest business events trade shows, and held targeted meetings in Singapore. In the coming months, we’ll unpack our trip and produce new marketing assets that promote Tasmania to global organisers. These activities are part of our broader strategy to grow Tasmania’s presence in the international business events market, complementing these developments and ensuring seats are filled on new flights.

As we head into winter and welcome the return of Dark Mofo, business events are also set to have a strong presence, with confirmed conferences bringing over 14,000 delegates and 35,000 room nights and between now and the end of October. BET will keep working to attract business events that deliver real value and support long-term growth across the hospitality industry and visitor economy.
