The Zantac Lawsuit

HOLDING THEM ACCOUNTABLE

In April 2020, the FDAwas forced to issue a recall of the drug based upon the evidence gathered through the investigation. Researchers discovered that the longer the Ranitidine sat in storage, and the hotter the temperature it was stored in, the more the NDMA contamination increased. At this time, we don’t know how long this dangerous chemical has been contaminating a product that millions of people relied upon and used every day; nor do we know how many people have suffered severe health problems as a result. HOLDING THEM ACCOUNTABLE Sanofi didn’t do enough research and investigation to understand the long-term effects of the drug it was manufacturing, and they need to be held accountable for their negligence and the damage they’ve caused to innocent people. If you or a loved one was diagnosed with cancer after using Zantac, justice and compensation could be within reach.

Many people have heard of Zantac, one of the most popular over-the- counter medications in the country, and millions of people were using it to relieve heartburn and chest pain. What people haven’t heard is that it is also a potential cancer risk. The millions of people who used Zantac regularly were oblivious to the dangers associated with taking the drug, and as a result they are suffering with the consequences. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced a recall of Zantac along with all other medications using its active ingredient: Ranitidine. This recall follows new research showing that the Ranitidine found in Zantac was too often contaminated by N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a chemical classified as a probable carcinogen by the FDA, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the World Health Organization. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), NDMA has been linked to a variety of diseases, including severe liver disease, liver cancer, testicular cancer, and lung cancer. Zantac’s manufacturer, Sanofi, had a responsibility to ensure that their customers wouldn’t suffer injury from using their product, and they failed to meet that responsibility. A HIDDEN DANGER The investigation into NDMA contamination of Ranitidine began in 2019. After Valisure, an independent lab, found some evidence of contamination, the FDA and the sellers of Zantac announced a voluntary recall. Zantac was removed from the shelves in many places and people were advised to stop using it until the investigation could be completed.

RECOVERY AND ELIGIBILITY What can I recover from a Zantac lawsuit?

From a successful lawsuit, an individual could potentially win economic damages — including past and future medical bills, and lost earnings — as well as noneconomic damages for losses such as pain and suffering. The actual compensation a plaintiff is eligible to receive depends on the specific details of their case.

Speaking with an attorney can help you determine what damages you may be eligible for and what you need to do to proceed.

How do I know if I have a case? Talking to an attorney can help you determine if you are a potential plaintiff who was diagnosed with cancer after taking Zantac OTC or a generic equivalent. Call us today for a free consultation. You don’t pay anything unless we win your case!

HAVE CELEBRITY DIVORCES ALWAYS BEEN CRAZY?

THE NIGHT THAT CHANGED FOOTBALL FOREVER

How Fantasy Football Got Its Start

Every year, 40 million Americans (and even entire offices) play fantasy football, “drafting” players from across the NFL for their virtual teams and competing for money and, more importantly, bragging rights. Maybe you have a virtual team in the locker room as you’re reading this! But where did the concept of fantasy football start? According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the gridiron trend began in a New York City hotel room in 1962 — a night that changed football forever. There, a group of friends led by Oakland Raiders part-owner Bill Winkenbach created the first fantasy football league. They dubbed it the Greater Oakland Professional Pigskin Prognosticators League — or GOPPPL for short. Apart from the point values assigned to different accomplishments on the field, their original model wasn’t very far off from the fantasy football of today. “The league members would ‘draft’ actual National Football League (NFL) and American Football League … players to their fantasy franchises, and on the basis of the actual performance of those players in games, the members would accrue points and compete against each other,” the encyclopedia reports. Early fantasy football leagues were complicated undertakings. In the days before the internet, members had to agree to reference the box scores in a particular newspaper’s sports pages and “draft” their teams in the same room on long phone calls, or even via snail mail. CBS Sports began offering online fantasy football leagues in 1997, and today it’s even easier to play. The sport is built right into the NFL website (Fantasy.NFL.com), and you can join a free league or start a league of your own with a click! Whether you’re a former player or a superfan who wants to play coach for a day, fantasy is a great way to stake a personal claim in the sport and connect with friends while you do it. Check out the article “How to Play Fantasy Football: A Beginner’s Guide” on NFL.com to learn the basics. It’s updated annually, so make sure you hunt down the 2021 version! When you start, don’t forget to salute Winkenbach, the official “Father of Fantasy Sports.”

What is it about celebrity marriages — and their subsequent endings — that fascinates society? Depending on how you measure, telling the stories of makeups and breakups is a multibillion-dollar industry for media organizations online, in print, and on TV. Are we really that hungry for nasty headlines? Or is something deeper going on in the human psyche? In the last 12 months, we’ve seen some of the worst marriage breakups in Hollywood history, but Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s libel suit took center stage. As usual, “Whom do you believe?” was the question of the day, but it quickly became obvious that both parties needed a therapist’s help to work through serious emotional problems but, instead, they tried unsuccessfully to do it themselves. Perhaps the most disturbing element in the Heard/Depp trial was the violence that seemed to pervade their daily lives. But that’s nothing new; in fact, the violent behavior of both partners is likely what drew so much attention in the first place. That was certainly the case with O.J. Simpson’s breakupwith his wife, which didn’t get half the headlines her murderwould (and the “trial of the century” that followed) two years later. You could argue, though, that we’re getting better. When we look at the roots of the “celebrity divorce” phenomenon, it goes back in time to the realm of myth. The gods of Greece and Rome were always leaving each other and getting back together, a clear indication of the drama that interested our ancestors. But the most famous celebrity divorce of the pre-19th century (and perhaps of all time) was Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. It had all the hallmarks of modern public breakups: People took one side or the other, with other parties still “shipping” Henry and his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. Henry and Catherine’s divorce led to the trauma of war across England and Europe. Like today’s celebrity cases, it didn’t last long. Anne was executed a few short years later when someone new caught the king’s eye. Henry VIII was the archetype of the modern Hollywood actor with the wandering gaze, and Catherine and Anne typified the women willing to give him “one more chance.”

Seeing how that ended, perhaps we should be grateful that things today are aired out in the media — instead of on the battlefield!

And it all began in Michigan.

Don’t Stress — 3 Tips for Back-to-School Success

DON’T STRESS — 3 TIPS FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUCCESS

CREATE HOMEWORK TIME Designate one hour of the evening as homework or school time. This allows your child to take a break shortly after they arrive home from school, and it also ensures they have a designated time to complete their work. This time should be focused. Turn off the TV, create a space designed for studying — like a desk — and be present if you’re needed. If they don’t have any work or they finish early, use this time for reading, cleaning, organizing, or bonding as a family. Once the hour is up, your child can keep working or go back to relaxing! FIND A BUDDY This is two-fold! If possible, partnering your child up with a neighborhood classmate can be beneficial for their success and your peace of mind. The students can commute to school together, taking the strain off parents, and they can provide a friendly face at school when needed. Furthermore, if parents connect with other parents, they can swap tips, carpool, and share important information. Find your network and strategize!

It’s back-to-school season across most of the U.S., and while there still may be some uncertainty about the ways in which instruction and classrooms have changed since COVID-19, getting back into the routine of the school year can be tough on many families, regardless of the circumstances.

Eliminate stress by creating a back-to-school action plan that will make these early weeks of school a breeze!

COMMUNICATE AND COLLABORATE Education is centered around children, but there are many other influencers such as parents, teachers, and coaches whose involvement makes a huge difference. To connect these threads, keep communication between your child’s teachers and both parents open and honest. If you are co-parenting, set early ground rules — such as how your child will get to and from school — and consider using organization apps to keep track of assignments, school form needs, and other important materials. Setting up these lines of communication early will make obstacles easier to tackle.

Back-to-school season can be exciting! So, cut out the stress and make a plan. Let’s make this year great!
