also become most-known for her iconic roles as crime-fighting teen Veronica Mars in the show by the same name and as Eleanor Shellstrop in the afterlife comedy TV series “The Good Place.” DAX SHEPARD TOURED DETROIT DURING HIS CHILDHOOD. Although the couple wouldn’t meet until 2007 — nor were they married until 2013 — both Bell and Shepard grew up near each other in the Detroit region. In fact, Shepard is believed to have lived in many metro Detroit cities, including Milford and Walled Lake. Shepard graduated from Walled Lake Central High School in 1993 and moved to California shortly after. His primary mode of performance in his early career was improvisation, including his stint on “Punk’d,” the hidden camera TV show. Shepard would go on to star in well-known movies like “Employee of the Month” and “Idiocracy,” but one of his breakout roles came in 2010, when he landed the role as Crosby Braverman in the NBC drama “Parenthood.” He also hosts the wildly successful podcast “Armchair Expert.” Today, Bell and Shepard continue to use their platform to give back. Shepard is open about his battle with addiction and also volunteers with the Hollenbeck Youth Center in Los Angeles. Together, he and Bell also started Hello Bello, a plant-based baby products company that’s sold exclusively at Walmart, and Bell has participated in activism to support countries affected by dangerous civil wars.

And it all began in Michigan.

KRISTEN BELL’S EARLY CAREER BEGAN IN DETROIT. Bell was born and raised in HuntingtonWoods, Michigan. When she was 13 years old, Bell’s mom hired an agent for the young aspiring actress. This helped Bell land newspaper advertisements and TV commercials for local businesses. After graduating from Shrine Catholic High School in Royal Oak, Michigan, Bell headed for New York City to study musical theater at New York University. Her singing chops would come in handy in 2013, when she voiced the character Anna in the wildly popular Disney movie “Frozen.” Bell would

INGREDIENTS •

2 cups potatoes, peeled and chopped 1 cup carrots, peeled and diced 1/4 onion, chopped 1/2 cup nutritional yeast

1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp onion powder

Salt, to taste

1/2 cup warm water

DIRECTIONS 1. Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Add potatoes, carrots, and onion, then boil until soft, 15–20 minutes. 2. Drain vegetables. Using a blender, combine vegetables and remaining ingredients. Blend until smooth and creamy, adding additional water as necessary. 3. Drizzle sauce over nachos or vegetables and dig in!
