Don’t Stress — 3 Tips for Back-to-School Success

DON’T STRESS — 3 TIPS FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUCCESS

CREATE HOMEWORK TIME Designate one hour of the evening as homework or school time. This allows your child to take a break shortly after they arrive home from school, and it also ensures they have a designated time to complete their work. This time should be focused. Turn off the TV, create a space designed for studying — like a desk — and be present if you’re needed. If they don’t have any work or they finish early, use this time for reading, cleaning, organizing, or bonding as a family. Once the hour is up, your child can keep working or go back to relaxing! FIND A BUDDY This is two-fold! If possible, partnering your child up with a neighborhood classmate can be beneficial for their success and your peace of mind. The students can commute to school together, taking the strain off parents, and they can provide a friendly face at school when needed. Furthermore, if parents connect with other parents, they can swap tips, carpool, and share important information. Find your network and strategize!

It’s back-to-school season across most of the U.S., and while there still may be some uncertainty about the ways in which instruction and classrooms have changed since COVID-19, getting back into the routine of the school year can be tough on many families, regardless of the circumstances.

Eliminate stress by creating a back-to-school action plan that will make these early weeks of school a breeze!

COMMUNICATE AND COLLABORATE Education is centered around children, but there are many other influencers such as parents, teachers, and coaches whose involvement makes a huge difference. To connect these threads, keep communication between your child’s teachers and both parents open and honest. If you are co-parenting, set early ground rules — such as how your child will get to and from school — and consider using organization apps to keep track of assignments, school form needs, and other important materials. Setting up these lines of communication early will make obstacles easier to tackle.

Back-to-school season can be exciting! So, cut out the stress and make a plan. Let’s make this year great!
