While achievement in sport takes multiple forms, the success of every Christ’s College student strongly reflects the five Cs of commitment, communication, concentration, control, and confidence. From playing for your country and lining up against the toughest opposition to setting that milestone mark and becoming even stronger as a member of a team. We have asked six outstanding Christ’s College sportsmen to answer one question: For you personally, what is your greatest achievement in your sport?
James Diprose Year 11 – orienteering New Zealand Secondary Schools Orienteering team Making the New Zealand Secondary Schools Orienteering team has been one of the most rewarding milestones in my sporting journey. Being selected gave me the opportunity to travel to Australia and compete against talented athletes from different regions, which was both exciting and challenging. The experience pushed me to adapt quickly in unfamiliar environments, stay focused under pressure, and trust my decision- making during competition.
James Bandasak Year 13 – volleyball New Zealand U20 team One of my biggest volleyball achievements has been making the New Zealand U20 team. What made it special was seeing all the hard work over the years pay off, balancing school, training, gym, and tournaments while competing against some of the best players in the country. It also taught me a lot about handling pressure, teamwork, and discipline. I’m excited to keep pushing myself towards even bigger achievements in the future.
Henry Jones Year 13 – rowing Maadi Regatta medallist
My U18 pairs race with Toby Adams, where we won a bronze medal at the Maadi Regatta, is my greatest achievement to date. All season, we were just trying to take it step by step and focus on the process. This led to the most enjoyable season I’ve had yet, and, subsequently, a pretty special result. Honestly, it was just great to give it everything with one of my mates.
