WHY SWANSEA? • All research students become part of our Graduate Centre, which provides pastoral as well as administrative support and is also responsible for research skills training and support, as well as facilitating a lively intellectual environment for the postgraduate research community. • We have labs equipped with the latest industry translation software, a conference interpreting suite, and a state-of-the-art eye-tracker. • Based on our energising Singleton contributed to the cultural life of Wales as adjudicators at the National Eisteddfod, and as editors of magazines, such as Barn, Taliesin, Ysgrifau Beirniadol and Dwned. Three members of staff at the Department have also won the Chair and the Crown at the National Eisteddfod. Join us at Swansea University's Department of Welsh, we offer excellent research supervision available in a variety of areas, including media and film, literature, bilingual policy, creative writing, cultural and social history and language planning. You'll also have the opportunity to delve into the topics that interest you most and contribute to the rich

cultural heritage of Wales. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

• A PhD, MPhil or MA by Research in Welsh enables you to undertake a substantial project rooted in your own Welsh passions and interests. • Our research programmes can present a pathway to a career in academia, or widen your scope for employment in fields such as education, government, or the private sector. • Research areas include; bilingualism and language planning, creative writing, culture of the industrial valleys of south Wales, devolution, drama and film, law and minority languages, literature through the ages, literary criticism, sociolinguistics, translation techniques and technology, Welsh for adults and language acquisition.

• The taught MA in Professional Translation provides you an

opportunity to develop specialised skills in public service interpreting, audio-visual translation, machine translation and software localisation, terminology management and more. • Our research-active staff are continually working to make real differences and contributions in Wales and beyond.
