A self-designed PhD will take a little more effort and thought to get started, but you should ultimately end up with a project theme that truly excites and interests you.
CONTACT POTENTIAL SUPERVISORS:
After coming up with an initial idea for a project, you will need to identify and contact an appropriate academic supervisor. A good starting point is to find the University department with the areas of strength that are most relevant to your research. You can use Swansea University’s online directory of expertise, speak to your current supervisor, attend a study fair or a postgraduate open evening. There are various ways to fund your PhD, including loans, available through Student Finance Wales and Student Finance England. Academics welcome informal approaches from prospective students and they will also be able to help shape your research proposal. Do your research before you submit and take your time preparing. Good luck! APPLICATION:
