Embark on your postgraduate studies focussing on the history, cultures, languages, and literature of the ancient world. Our fascinating and rigorous courses span the ancient worlds of Greece, Rome, Egypt, and their neighbours, using ancient evidence and modern ideas to explore the character, impact, and heritage of these ancient cultures.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT • Develop specialist skills and knowledge to advance your

• Current areas of expertise include: history, society and culture of ancient Egypt, and its interactions with neighbouring territories in Nubia and the Near East; ancient narrative literatures; Cyprus as a crossroads of ancient culture; Greek culture in the Roman world; food in Roman culture; Pompeii and the cities of Vesuvius; interactions between the Greek and Roman worlds and neighbouring territories across Afro-Eurasia from the archaic period to late antiquity;

understanding of the ancient world. • Choose from wide-ranging module options across disciplines of history and culture, languages and literature, allowing you to focus on your own interests and passions. • Study resources include a main library which is particularly well stocked with ancient literary and documentary sources, archaeological, epigraphic, and papyrological publications, and relevant modern scholarship. Library collections include a wide range of specialist periodicals, and an increasing number of specialist digital resources. Students also have access to the collections and resources in the Egypt Centre on campus. Specialist training is also offered via the research centres. • Work alongside academic supervisors whose world-class research expertise will help you develop your critical approaches and develop your own research skills.

• Current and recently completed PhD projects include: the production and circulation of amulets in the Nile delta in the first millennium BCE; ideologies of rulership in ancient Egypt; representations of Persians in ancient Greek novels; ethnicity and federalism in ancient Greece; transformations of the Roman court in late antiquity.
