F or my birthday this year, my husband surprised me with an e-bike. He and I used to bike quite a bit several years ago, but then I got sick. He kept biking, and his rides continued to get longer and more difficult. I could no longer keep up. But now with my e-bike, challenges like wind, steep hills, and even my own deconditioning have become less of a factor. It’s flattened the playing field, and we can once again bike together. This actually is a good allegory for flooring software. While a basic one-gear bicycle can get you down the road, it takes quite a bit of effort and progress is slower.
