HOW, WHY & WHEN of USING A 3rd Party Flooring Inspector

F looring Inspectors have a unique position within the flooring industry, historically they are utilized for dispute resolution. Inspectors perform their work to determine causation of a negative issue or concern to 4 basic categories, manufacturing, installation, maintenance, or specification. However, there is more to the story. Inspectors have backgrounds and careers within the construction and flooring industries. Manufacturing, sales, installation, cleaning, maintenance, restoration, and construction trades, to name a few. Becoming a certified inspector, besides a history in flooring, (this helps to understand what you are about to do), must attend an accredited school, ( as the IICRC), pass a written and hands on test. This process is for every flooring product. One certification will not cover multiple products. There are also three areas a 3rd party independent Inspector can be utilized, the before, during and after of a flooring project. There has been a saying for years that, inspectors are hired guns, well that is far from the truth. If an inspector compromises their integrity by financial incentive or favors, well they will damage their reputation, and basically for good. One other area, being used as a collection agent with a pre- arranged favorable report. My history as a supplier and installer “to the Trade”, I did attend an inspection school, (IICRC), just to see what this is all about. My education in this changed the way I performed and marketed my business.
