The Before, During & After When a sale is made, and product is installed. This can be the good, bad, and ugly of a project. Inspectors can also act as a 3rd party Consultant. Before , this is during the sale process, the planning stage. Bringing in an Inspector as a Consultant to the scope of work to be performed and what is required, (substrate preparation). They can write a detailed preparation, installation, and maintenance scope of work. This will support and prod cut warranty. During , the Inspector can perform oversight as the project goes along. Documenting all work action to the preparation of substrate, installation, and the cleaning, prior to turnover to Owner. This will support via documentation any warranty claims of the future. After , the turnover of the flooring installation, a negative issue develops and “the call” is made to all parties; that touched the substrate or flooring product.“defective” is the operative word used. Inspectors are called in to take apart the puzzle, analyze the parts and point the finger of responsibility. The end result, if replacement is the only and final option is; at a minimum, three times the cost of the original (demo existing, prep substrate, new materials and labor.)
