Jo Phillips, director of research and innovation at Nest Insight delivered a session on Workplace savings: how can employers support employee financial well-being through payroll ? This insightful session covered the benefits of offering payroll saving and the saving behaviours associated with employees, as well as taking a look at a case study with Suez and TransaveUK. Mathew Akrigg, policy and research officer, Fiona Smith, payroll trainer and Gary Wedderburn from the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, discussed the challenges that payroll professionals face in the wake of the Harpur v Brazel judgment. There were some excellent questions from the audience, and the panel explained the impact of the decision and what payroll professionals now need to think about, and do, to ensure compliance.
