PAYROLL PETS
Modern life is incredibly busy. Combining work and home life can be a balancing act, and recently, we’ve all been exposed to considerable uncertainty. Pets can really help our mental well-being and help us find some solace and stability in difficult times. We asked you, the payroll professionals, to show us your pets.
Here are just a few of your wonderful furry and feathered friends...
Name: Skye and Hope Sent by: Helen Hargreaves MSc ChFCIPPdip, head of payroll policy at MBKB Business Consultancy and Training “My payroll pets are Shetland Sheepdogs (shelties), Skye and Hope. I’ve worked from home for many years now, and following the pandemic, most people have now realised it can be lonely working from home. But not with these two around! They instinctively know if I’m having a bad day and have their own strategies for combatting it. Hope (on the right) will lay on her back to have her tummy tickled, and if that doesn’t work, Skye (on the left) will just lay her head on my knee, looking up at me with a soulful expression, convincing me to take them out for a walk. “It’s amazing how much better you feel being out in the fresh air with your dogs, even if it’s only for ten minutes. Skye is almost 15 now and does like a ‘nana nap’ when she gets back in from her walk. This is perhaps a blessing, as it means she’s less likely to make her presence felt on video calls if they happen to be held at the same time as the postman arrives. Sorry to everyone who’s experienced that one slight drawback of me having dogs as my resident team mates!”
Name: Pebble Sent by: Tracey Beats ACIPP, payroll manager, Alzheimer’s Society “This is Pebble. She’s four years old and is a British blue. She currently works as the payroll manager’s assistant for Alzheimer’s Society. She’s home-based and loves pressing keys on keyboards, sitting on calculators and drinking my water. “Unfortunately, she often sleeps on the job and loves a full wash behind me when I’m on Teams calls.”
Name: Milly Sent by: Michelle Roden ACIPP, payroll team leader, PDSA
“This is my lovely Milly, she’s nearly 14 years old and she’s my old moggy. She’s my shadow and is never too far away from me, even more so now I work from home. It always feels so weird if I pop into the office when I’m not interrupted by her head bops, purrs and meows. If I’m totally engrossed in my work, I always know when it’s nearly 5 o’clock as she’ll sit meowing her little fluffy face off until I log off to feed her, I just love her.”
Name: Eddie Sent by: Julie Playford ACIPP, management accountant, Aquaterra Energy Limited “This is our lovely miniature dachshund, Eddie. He turned one on 20 March 2022. We love him dearly and often when I’m working at home, he curls up on my lap and goes to sleep.”
If you’ve submitted your payroll pet to us and they’re not included, you’ll see them in a future issue of Professional .
