Covering more than 2,000 miles, eight states, and three time zones, this legendary highway stretches from Chicago in the east to Santa Monica in the west and takes in some of the most amazing, and also peculiar, destinations in the USA.

We’ve all heard of the vibrant cities like Las Vegas and Chicago that grab headlines along this route, but it’s the fascinating ghost towns, quirky diners, oversized landmarks, culture, and breathtaking natural wonders you’ll discover along the way that make a journey on this highway so unique and memorable. The official starting point of Route 66 can be found on Jackson Boulevard in Chicago. Lou Mitchell’s diner is a favourite spot to enjoy breakfast before setting off, due to its proximity to the starting point sign. After Illinois, you travel into Missouri

to discover the World’s Largest Rocking Chair and St. Louis’ Gateway Arch - the nation’s tallest monument. Cruise through Kansas into Oklahoma and marvel at The Blue Whale of Catoosa and the historic Route 66 Museum. Discover the way to Amarillo in Texas, where the impressive Cadillac Ranch art installation awaits. New Mexico serves up fascinating culture along with many of the route’s classic neon signs, architectural wonders, and can’t-miss curiosities. In Arizona you’ll see the unique Wigwam Motel and also experience a host of natural wonders, from the

Painted Desert to the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon. This unforgettable journey ends in Santa Monica, California and don’t forget to get your photo taken at the “End of the Trail” sign on the pier. All of this, plus so much more awaits on Route 66! While escorted coach touring options are available for Route 66, it’s hard not to imagine taking to the open road in your own vehicle for this epic road trip. With so much to see and do along this route, choosing one of our more flexible touring options where you still have an expertly-planned itinerary is the best way to make sure you don’t miss anything.
