Employee Handbook 2022-2023

Use of School Property and Equipment

Certain job positions allow for the personal assignment of school property and/or equipment. This assignment may be on temporary or recurring basis or may be assigned to the employee during the term of his/her employment. Employees are required to follow proper procedures and instructions for care and maintenance of the property in their possession. They are also expected to return assigned property to the school when requested and/or at the end of their employment. Failure to return property when requested or at the end of employment may result in corrective action, deduction of the value from wages, or billing for the amount owed.

Violence Protection

The safety and security of all students and employees is of primary importance at Levine Academy. Threats, threatening and abusive behavior, or acts of violence against employees, students, parents, visitors, or other individuals by anyone on school property or at school functions will not be tolerated. Violations of this policy will lead to corrective action up to, and including, termination and/or referral to appropriate law enforcement agencies for arrest and prosecution. The school reserves the right to take any necessary legal action to protect its employees. Any person who makes threats, exhibits threatening behavior, or engages in violent acts on school premises shall be removed from the premises as quickly as safety permits and shall remain off school premises pending the outcome of an investigation. Following investigation, the school will initiate an immediate and appropriate response. This response may include, but is not limited to, suspension and/or termination of any business relationship, reassignment of job duties, suspension or termination of employment, and/or criminal prosecution of the person or persons involved. All employees are responsible for notifying their supervisor, Human Resources or the Head of School of any threats that they witness or receive or that they are told another person witnessed or received. Even without a specific threat, all employees should report any behavior or situation they have witnessed that they regard potentially threatening or violent or which could endanger the health or safety of an employee when the behavior has been carried out on a school-controlled site or is connected to school employment or school business. Employees are responsible for making this report regardless of the relationship between the individual who initiated the threatening behavior and the person or persons being threatened. The school understands the sensitivity of the information requested and has developed confidentiality procedures that recognize and respect the privacy of the reporting employee.

Weapons

Despite some laws (Concealed Handgun License, CHL) that allow people to carry firearms in public, Ann and Nate Levine Academy prohibits anyone from possessing or carrying weapons of any kind on school property, in school vehicles, or personal vehicles at any school function on or off campus or while on school business. This includes:

1.

Any form of weapon or explosive; All firearms; and

2. All illegal knives or knives with blades that are more than six inches in length.

If an employee is unsure whether an item is covered by this policy, he/she should contact Human Resources. Employees are responsible for making sure that any item they possess is not prohibited by this policy. Police officers, security guards, and other individuals who have been given consent by the school to carry a weapon on the property will be allowed to do so. While the school has a policy prohibiting weapons, nothing in this policy shall be construed as creating any duty or obligation on the part of the school to take any actions beyond those required of an employer by existing law.
