Possess strong communication skills, including but not limited to the preparation of clear, concise, and accurate written reports, ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the position, spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills, and the ability to present ideas and instructions effectively.

28. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the streets and road systems within the District.

29. Possess the knowledge and skills to manage and remain current on all fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical activities.

30. Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate reliability, thoroughness, punctuality, and accuracy.

31. Willing and capable of working a 48-hour shift or more as may be required from time to time to maintain minimum staffing and supervision levels.

32. Ability to pass a background investigation and random illegal drug testing.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

1. This position requires work in a variety of locations and conditions, including but not limited to fire stations, similar indoor work areas, offices, and other indoor work environments, as well as buildings under construction and emergency scenes of all types. 2. Strenuous physical activity is required periodically under extreme adverse conditions. Exerting more than seventy-five (75) pounds of force occasionally, more than thirty-five (35) pounds of force frequently, and over twenty (20) pounds of force constantly to move objects.

3. A substantial portion of this position will involve sedentary, administrative work in an office environment; however, the Battalion Chief also shall respond to emergency incidents.
