JULY 2025

Here’s How I Slowed It Down Without Stalling My Business PARENTHOOD MOVES FAST

Nothing is permanent, and when you’re a parent, it can feel like one minute your child is a baby and the next they’re a teenager, and pretty soon, they’re moving away. You never stop being a parent, but in the busyness of life, especially when you’re working hard to support your family, time can move quickly. In the early days of starting Anthony’s Lawn Care, I worked seven days a week; that’s what it takes to get a big dream off the ground sometimes. As I have implemented more of the 80/20 rule and found small ways to spend more time with my boys, it’s slowed down that “Wow, they’re growing up so fast” feeling.

Anthony’s and get the time I wanted with my kids. He asked about my values and how much time I spent with my family. We reverse-engineered my personal and professional life in little steps. He asked me what it would take for me to do school drop-offs a few times a week or to actually take a vacation. He was relentless in his check-ins, encouraging me to train employees to take some of my morning tasks off my plate. Sometimes, it’s worth it to grind and work long hours for your business. I still have weeks where I have to jump in and give the company more. But I know the little things I’ve done to spend more time with my kids have changed our relationship.

July is Purposeful Parenting Month, and it’s not about being perfect. For me, parenting with purpose is about trying to be more intentional and carving out whatever time we can to connect with our kids. I was hooked on working long hours, but when I started talking with business consultant Perry Marshall, I began taking steps to get more recharge time. I hadn’t planned to go on vacation for 10 or 20 years while growing my business, but when I think back on some of the amazing trips we’ve taken with Andrew and Joseph, I’m glad I made that time. Perry calls it renaissance time, stepping away from operations for a week and gaining new clarity.

When I started making changes to the business side to get more family time, it had positive impacts on my company, too. I could empower my employees to do more, get a bird’s-eye view of how the company operated and what I needed to improve upon, and still take moments to spend with my kids. If you’re a parent who’s felt the weight of long hours, I get it. Sometimes, it feels impossible to get away, but even making just enough to drop the kids off at school a couple of days a week or have family dinners can

make a lasting impact. Purposeful parenting doesn’t mean you have to be perfect or give up any career goals. To me, it’s about being present when you can and exploring how you can adjust your schedule or your business. You’ll always enjoy being a parent, even when your kid is an adult, but those childhood years do move fast. If you can slow it down, even just a little, it’s so worth it.

When Andrew was young, I worked nonstop from early morning to late at night, but as I began to optimize my workflow, it gave me more time for the special moments of childhood. It slowed things down and let me participate in my children’s hobbies and adventures while they are still young.

Grill, Gather, and Glow

MAKE YOUR YARD A TRUE REFLECTION OF YOU Style Meets Soil

Summer is here, and that means the grill is calling, and it’s time to get your lawn looking its best for all the family gatherings! Whether you’re planning a backyard barbecue, an elegant garden party, or just want to soak in the sun in style, a little lawn prep can transform your yard into the ultimate green gala! Here’s how to make your lawn picture-perfect for a season full of outdoor fun! MOW FOR THE MOMENT. The best time to mow your lawn before an event is a few days before guests arrive. Aim to keep the grass slightly longer than usual since there will be extra foot traffic in the yard. Keeping it just a bit long will ensure it looks lush, fresh, and well-maintained throughout the party without getting flattened during the festivities. As a general rule, you never want to trim the blades too short, as it could stress your lawn. BREATHE LIFE INTO SOIL. The most wow-worthy lawn is healthy, hydrated, and supported by a strong root system. Focus on giving your grass the proper care it needs to impress visitors and withstand the summer heat. Aerating your lawn — creating small holes in the soil — can help get more water and nutrients into the roots. You can do this a few weeks before your party with a garden fork or aerator, or by calling a professional landscaping company. Water your lawn in the morning to reduce the possibility of evaporation. FINISH WITH FLAIR. Once you’ve given the lawn a party-perfect makeover, add decorations and tidy up the space to create an inviting atmosphere. Pick up any gardening tools or toys and clear yard debris like weeds. If your party will take place in the evening, ensure you have good lighting. String lights not only look great and add a little whimsy to your yard, but they also provide soft lighting for socializing. No matter what kind of gathering you plan this summer, a lush lawn is the perfect backdrop for creating lasting memories. Your yard is one of the first things you see when you come home every day, and the right

additions can make it a space that truly reflects your personality. Whether you’re into contemporary design, looking to create a cozy oasis, or want a maximalist mix of vibrant colors, you can add touches of who you are to the garden easily. From pretty pathways to a flowerbed with your favorite scents, here are three ideas to make your landscaping your own this month!

SHOW OFF YOUR STYLE. Add unique little touches throughout your yard to make a statement with some of the things that make you smile. It could be anything from thrifted garden gnomes to homemade birdhouses or decorations inside the home. Think of your outdoor space as another room where you can mix functionality with personal style. If you enjoy cooking, consider creating a fun grilling area or making a peaceful area where you can do arts and crafts if that’s your favorite pastime. The more you make it your own, the more your yard will stand out! CREATE A CHILL ZONE. Make your yard a place that invites you to relax, unwind, and spend time there. You can create an inexpensive lounge by sectioning off part of your outdoor space with plants to make it feel private. Add comfortable chairs, a table, and lighting so you can read or enjoy a meal under the stars. Bring some warmth into your cozy corner by adding a firepit or some LED candles. ADD PLANTS WITH PERSONALITY. As you plan your garden, choose plants that bring dramatic elements to the space or speak to some of your interests. Select flowers, shrubs, or succulents that feature unusual shapes or bright colors. Atypical varieties give your garden dimension, visual appeal, and a little bit of surprise to make it stand out. Think about your favorite colors and textures to keep your landscaping fresh and uniquely you. Ready to put your personal mark on your yard? Contact Anthony’s Lawn Care today, and we can help you turn your outdoor space into your own private paradise.
