Future-proofing through hybrid networks

A key part of Vios’ strategy is technological flexibility. In existing areas, coax infrastructure is preserved and upgraded where it continues to deliver value. In new developments or major renovations, XGS- PON fibre is deployed to meet demand for symmetrical gigabit speeds, low latency and future digital services. Hybrid network designs allow antenna associations to balance investment, sustainability and performance. Existing infrastructure is utilised efficiently while new fibre deployments ensure long-term competitiveness. The result is tangible: higher available speeds, improved stability and a clearer upgrade path without abandoning the locally owned model. Lessons beyond Denmark Vios’ experience shows that local ownership and professional network operations do not have to be mutually exclusive. In a market under pressure from consolidation and fibre expansion, partnership models can offer a viable alternative. By combining local trust, professional operations and flexible technology choices, antenna associations can remain relevant, competitive and future-proof even in a fibre-first world. For Vios, the objective is clear: not to replace local antenna associations, but to ensure they continue to thrive. Vios at a glance n Established in December 2022 – still a young company with three years of market experience. n Operating DOCSIS 3.0 & 3.1 coax networks. n Deploying XGS-PON fibre in new and renovated areas. n Designing hybrid coax/fibre solutions. n Partnering with 8 antenna associations/city-nets across Denmark. n Responsible for operations, monitoring, customer service, systems, websites and marketing.

network monitoring and modernised headends ensure high stability, improved performance, readiness for future demands, and broadband speeds of up to 2200Mbit on coax networks and 5000Mbit on XGS-PON. Commercially, Vios negotiates central TV and content agreements that antenna associations can join. This creates scale advantages and access to competitive content packages that would be difficult to secure individually. Vios also provides customer service, system maintenance, billing, website maintenance and marketing. Importantly, customer service is designed around the member relationship and combines traditional KPI optimisation with a strong focus on the customer. The goal is not just fast response times, but long-term trust and satisfaction. Marketing efforts remain locally anchored, reflecting each association’s identity and community rather than generic national campaigns.

face towards its members. Vios operates the professional backbone behind the scenes. “The antenna association remains the local face. Vios provides the engine that keeps the network competitive.” Says Michael Jakobsen, CEO of Vios. This partnership model is designed to strengthen – not replace – the Danish association model. It allows local organisations to retain their identity while gaining access to professional operations, scale and expertise. From operations to member experience

In practice, Vios supports antenna associations across several key areas.

On the technical side, Vios operates and upgrades DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1 coax networks, deploys XGS-PON fibre in new or renovated areas, and designs hybrid solutions that combine fibre and coax infrastructure. Continuous
