From Legal Briefs to Belly Laughs The Just Call Moe Comedy Jam Hits the Funny Bone!

Laughter is good for you, and if you do it right, it can also benefit the community. This September, we’re swapping legal briefs for punchlines and subpoenas for stand-up in another of our favorite laugh-out-loud events! And we can’t wait to see you there. The Just Call Moe Comedy Jam will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5, featuring some of Central Florida’s best comedians. Like our past comedy jams, we will show the community some love, and proceeds will benefit the Yellow Brick Road Foundation. This Orlando nonprofit supports families impacted by congenital heart disease. I’ve always loved stand-up comedy, and over the years, I’ve met so much hilarious local talent. So, in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when we wanted to do something to give back to people, we thought a little

laughter was just the ticket to cheer our community up. Seeing how far our funny show has come since its inception is wild. That first year, it began as a virtual-only show, and our comedians performed live- streamed recorded sets. People loved the entertainment, and raising funds for Yellow Brick Road was rewarding. We have continued hosting in-person comedy jams ever since, and it continues to grow. So far, the Just Call Moe Comedy Jam has raised more than $10,000 for local charities. Last year, we sold out, and it was a standing-room laugh-fest! We’ve outgrown our venue this year and are moving to the Funny Bone Comedy Club Orlando on International Drive. The club is home to some seriously silly performers, featuring huge touring acts like Marlon Wayans and Carlos Mencia as well as open mic nights

where the best of Florida flex their funny bones. I feel honored to bring our act to the stage of this local gem! This year’s lineup is still growing but will include local favorites like David Jolly. The Orlando native has toured comedy clubs worldwide and regularly appears on the popular podcast Kill Tony. If you haven’t heard his comedy stylings yet, check out the Kill Tony YouTube channel, where Jolly was featured just a few months ago. Leading all the action will be funnyman Ross McCoy, the host of The Orlando Talk Show and a comedian who cracks us up. Ross has been part of our comedy jam from the very beginning, and guests have come to expect him at the helm of our humor hangout. The show will also include comedians Austin Kleeman, Roo Nafasat and Donald Evans. If you’re ready to laugh all night and support a good cause, we think this year’s jam will be our best one yet! Be sure to get your tickets soon, as we expect to sell out this show. General admission tickets are $20, but we also have VIP options with tons of Just Call Moe goodies and a dinner package that includes a delicious plate! For more information on the Just Call Moe Comedy Jam or to purchase your tickets, visit MoeComedyJam.com .

We hope to see you there! I’ll be the one cracking up in the front row!

LIGHTS, CAMERA, CASH WHY REAL MONEY CAN’T TAKE CENTER STAGE

You can’t print money. Real currency is printed on a unique blend of cotton and linen available only to the U.S. government. Prop money can’t feel like the real deal. It has to be on paper and printed at a lower resolution. Robert De Niro didn’t like how the prop money felt in his hands while filming “Goodfellas.” To get around it, the prop master withdrew money from his bank account for De Niro to use. At the end of each scene, no one could leave until all the money was counted and returned. So, next time one of your favorite movie characters has cash to burn, remember, those are fake bills in the flames!

Have you ever wondered how moviemakers can afford to blow up piles of money on the big screen? It turns out that it’s tricky, as the government has a set of strict rules to follow when studios feature U.S. currency on screen. So, roll out the red carpet because we’re about to explore the laws of prop money. Identical bills are illegal. Prop money can’t look identical to actual bills because of concerns about whether it could be circulated to the public and used. This happened after a “Rush Hour 2” scene where they blew up billions of dollars in prop money. Extras took home some of the fake cash and tried to use it in Las Vegas. The Secret Service got involved immediately,

shutting down the shoot and confiscating the bills. If the money is a replica, it must be either 75% smaller or 150% larger than real bills. One of the most common methods studios use is printing only one side of the fake money. The design can also be altered slightly, like changing the shading or picture. Real cash can’t be destroyed. Even though blowing up or burning money on camera can pump up the action for the audience, legal tender cannot be destroyed in movies. Anyone can be charged with a federal crime, punishable by 10 years in prison and fines for destroying money. Only the Federal Reserve has that power. Technically, it’s illegal to even flatten a penny.

PUCKS, PLAYOFFS, AND PRIDE Just Call Moe and the Solar Bears’ Winning Partnership There’s nothing better on a warm Orlando day than hitting the ice — for some hockey, that is. As the proud sponsors and exclusive personal injury and family law firm of the Orlando Solar Bears, we’ve had many opportunities to enjoy the cool excitement of hockey this season. We partnered with this fantastic local team last August for their 2023-24 season and are excited to be a part of the Orlando Solar Bears family. This is the first time we’ve partnered with a professional sports team, and we chose them because of their commitment to this city and their dedicated fan base. We want to congratulate the Solar Bears on an epic season and praise the team’s efforts and dedication. The Bears played hard during the 2024 Kelly Cup Playoffs, but were eliminated in the second round by the Florida Everblades in game five. The Florida Everblades went on to win the Kelly Cup.

Congrats to 2023-24 season award-winners Tyler Bird (Player of the Year and Clutch Performer), Brayden Low (Most Valuable Player), Jimmy Mazza (Dan Snyder Award), Chays Ruddy (Rob Kenny Community Service), and Robin Broderick (Top Shelf Award). We’ve loved being a part of this amazing season, and we can’t wait to see how fast the pucks will fly next year! We proudly support this team, from handing out great Just Call Moe swag at tailgates and other Solar Bears events to cheering on the players from the sidelines. We hope to see you next season on the ice! To learn more about the Orlando Solar Bears, visit orlandosolarbearshockey.com. Tickets for the 2024-25 season are available now.

2 Essential Tips for Grilling Perfection

4

TIPS TO PERFECT YOUR GRILL GAME Summer Sizzle

Summer is the season for grilling. From skewered vegetables to sirloin steaks, your grill is perfect for making flavorful, nutritious food. Whether you plan to stoke the coals at a neighborhood get-together or prepare an incredible meal for a special occasion, you can use these two tips to get the most from your grill. Onions Have Layers The more you use your grill, the more grease, fat, and food debris accumulate on the grates. Luckily, onions are a natural solution to whisk away the mess. While caramelized onions are the perfect topping for burgers and steaks, you can use onions to clean your grill before grilling. First, ensure your grill is running hot; that heat will help enhance the onion’s cleansing properties. Then, using a skewer or grill fork as a handle, push the onion along

the grill’s grates. The onion’s natural acidity will help break down built-up fat, grease, and food. Once your grill is clear, it is ready for use! Clean grates do wonders for the taste and quality of the meats and veggies you grill. Heat and Temperature If you’ve ever had to take a food safety course, you know every meat has an ideal cooking temperature. For instance, chicken should reach 165 degrees internally, and for pork, it’s 145 degrees. While grilling, use a meat thermometer to determine which proteins are ready to serve and which need more time. Once you pull your meat off the grill, let it rest for at least five minutes before serving. This time makes the meat more tender and allows it to finish cooking off the grill passively.
