A rotary die cutter upgraded by Sun Automation is described by DeSollar as a “workhorse” and the company plans to keep it in full use going forward. “Solid mainte- nance practices are a cornerstone to any well-run compa- ny and we have emphasized this strongly.” Sumter is an ISO 9001 registered company. It maintains an ISTA lab for both 1A and 1B testing; services performed include burst strength testing, basis weight testing, and edge crush testing. The company is also certified as a G7 Master Printer. The key for Sumter going forward is in its balance be- tween everything it offers and how best to fit that to each customer’s particular needs. “We offer industrial packag- ing, slotted cartons, and display packaging, incorporating a variety of materials in addition to corrugated, including foam inserts and build-ups, corrugated roll-ups and plastic corrugated,” says DeSollar. “We have to weigh each proj- ect for how much protection the packaging requires and also what graphic elements it needs to best position the product in terms of sales and retail effectiveness.” As for what’s next, DeSollar says “change is constant in the corrugated industry, we’re always looking to upgrade significantly with each change so that we can continue to improve and better serve our customer base. Our latest partnership with Goepfert is a key part of that and one that will continue to serve our customers well into the future.”
