2.5.10 Security Issues
For more detailed information on response to security issues, refer to the Security Management Program that can be found on the Unified Management System SharePoint Site. Security incidents are often unpredictable and the potential can range from minor (harassment) to catastrophic (bomb threat). For all security events, personal safety is the highest priority. Follow the First On-Scene Strategy (Section 2.2.1). If you are threatened by anyone on company property, at a roadblock, reception centre, command post or staging area, tell your supervisor and/or report the incident to the police.
2.5.10.1 Violence and Harassment
For any threatened, attempted or actual physical assault or injury:
• Immediately retreat to a safe location • Follow the On-Scene Strategy • For any incidents involving a weapon or potential personal harm, call 9-1-1.
Examples of harassment and violence include:
• Threatening behaviour – such as shaking fists, destroying property or throwing objects. • Verbal or written threats – any expression of an intent to inflict harm. • Harassment – any behaviour that demeans, embarrasses, humiliates, annoys, alarms or verbally abuses a person and that is known or would be expected to be unwelcome. This includes words, gestures, intimidation, bullying, or other inappropriate activities. • Verbal abuse – swearing, insults or condescending language. • Physical attacks – hitting, shoving, pushing or kicking.
2.5.10.2 Response Actions – Bomb Threat/Security Incident
• Follow First On-Scene Strategy (Section 2.2.1). • Advise Enterprise Security. • Advise management. • Advise local police of threat/incident. • Co-ordinate a search of specified area: o Contact pre-assigned staff. o
Provide clear instructions on the scope of the search and communications. o Do not touch suspicious packages. • If there is a suspected bomb, advise police, Enterprise Security and management; inform staff (at your discretion) and resume normal work activities, if possible. • If a bomb or suspicious package is found: o Prevent access to and evacuate the building or facility. o Advise police, line management and immediate neighbours. • If threat is specific, credible, or if there is no time to search, order evacuation. • Confirm situation and location. • Notify appropriate supervisor. • Notify Lead Regulatory Agency if an incident has occurred.
Person receiving threat should: • Remain calm.
