DASA’s water leak service
As time passes, fixings and joints can become loose, materials can degrade or come to the end of their natural life. Pipes can also be punctured by sharp objects, or the simple movement of surfaces can cause a leak. Once water starts to escape it will often cause damage, or lead to rapidly rising water bills, so it is important to locate the problem at the earliest opportunity.

Non-destructive leak detection Water leaks can be notoriously difficult to find. Just because a puddle is forming in one spot on the drive, or a stain is appearing on a ceiling or wall does not necessarily mean that is where the actual leak is. Water will find its way through or around materials at different rates and can track along ducting, pipework, cables, joists or any other route to arrive at the point at which it starts to show. In many UK properties pipes are located within walls and under floorboards which will need to be accessed to repair a leak. The art of non-destructive leak detection is to utilise the latest technologies, combined with years of experience to locate the point of a leak, without causing damage to the property unnecessarily. DASA’s leak detection service Our service is designed tominimise inconvenience to the property owner through an often single visit service, keeping costs down through early leak location and repair. This also helps reduce or remove drying or alternative accommodation costs and inconvenience.
Inspection A detailed site inspection to pinpoint the area of concern in an efficient and non-destructive way using technology which includes: • Acoustics/listening devices • Thermal cameras • Water testing kit • Tracer gas detection • Moisture meters • Endoscopic cameras Finding the leak DASA is able to locate the area of concern with great accuracy before any access work is carried out resulting in a non-destructive approach to leak detection. Manage any risk implications In older properties, building materials may contain potentially dangerous asbestos. All DASA engineers are fully trained and insured to recognise this and can sample test on site so there is never any risk. Repairing the leak DASA engineers are able to take up flooring, break through walls or ceilings and, when appropriate, remove kitchen or bathroom fittings or furniture to get to the problem pipe. Insurance policies have varying levels of cover. We can collect any excess or contribution necessary, give appropriate advice towards settlement, or provide professional guidance and help directly if cover is excluded. Drying services In cases where drying is required, we are able to provide temporary mitigation (until an insurer’s preferred provider can attend) or a full drying programme. Reinstatement works This ‘one stop shop’ ensures that our teams can return the customer to their pre-loss condition, reinstating any work that was carried out as the result of a water leak. Work may include the renewal of kitchen flooring or worktops or replacement of driveways and gardens for external issues. This reduces the requirement for other suppliers, reducing the claim lifecycle and overall cost, and greatly improving the customer’s experience.

After repair
Detailed report Following repair we will produce a detailed report of what was discovered on site and what was done to remedy the situation, including photographic evidence to support and demonstrate methods used, leak location, any areas of surrounding damage caused as well as works carried out to repair and make good.
The DASA online Hub, allows this detail to be fed directly back to insurers or adjusters for their records and to reduce administration costs and time.
Options to limit further issues There may be situations, usually with older water supply pipes, where it makes sense to replace the full pipe rather than carry out an isolated repair. • We can provide the option of a trenchless full replacement pipe to avoid disruption. • We have proven processes in place to use any insurance payment, that would cover a repair cost, as a contribution to the full cost of replacement works. The property owners get a new pipe, that won’t continue to fail, and the insurer is protected from future potential claims. • We are able to explain the options to the homeowner and collect any contribution or betterment payment if required.
